Title: c.diff infection and dialysis patients
Post by: sullidog on May 11, 2010, 12:16:18 PM
I just recently found out that my problems lately are caused by the c.diff infection. Is this common with dialysis patients? The doctor put me on Flagyl to help treat it. Could I have also picked this up in the unit?

I had c diff, and it was a horrendous experience. im sorry you are have to go through it. it is highly contagious, and could have been acquired from your unit. too many antibiotics are usually the initial cause of it.
hope you feel better.

p.s. WASH EVERYTHING-the infection can live for 90 days on surfaces! very contagious! visitors had to put on gloves, masks, etc before coming into my hospital room.

I had this too in March and it was horrible.  I spent 8 days in isolation at the hospital.  I just wanted to die.  I was told it is very contagious and usually is the cause of antibiotics.  I got sick 4 days after out-patient surgery to have my fistula done.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I had MRSA in the hospital related to infection in my graft.  I was on Daptomycin for three weeks.  I hope it is cleared up now.  They said my blood was clear for five days before they let me out of the hospital.

Very contageous stuff, though that antibiotic ought to kill it off.
Just try your best to stay very clean to prevent another infection. Hope it all goes away soon.

I think it's finally starting to clear.
One thing about the flagel is that it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, the codeing itself you can taste even when you swallow it.

i'm pretty sure my DH has this. seen it before in long term care facilities. he's had a boatload of antibiotics over the last 3 months. has the signs/symptoms. nurse at clinic says better to stay home with it? this has been on going 3 weeks. he is very weak, dizzy, BP is always very high. extreme diarrhea with pus. coughs constantly and can't breathe half the time.
have him on flagly, probiotics, ginger for nausea, and yougurt. thats all i know to do. have to pick up sample kit tomorrow for test. i am worn out Dx this stuff at home. no sleep, constant state of near-crisis.
clean everything with bleach solution.
told nurse about this site, she replied gee thats negative. eh? its reality. when was last time they were on dialysis?
we're worn out running a hospital out of our bedroom.
