Title: Bad for my Fistula?
Post by: Bub on May 03, 2010, 01:00:41 PM
I have had a hard time lately with getting hooked up on the machine.  The nurse ends up sticking me repeatedly in each button hole and has switched to a sharp after several attempts.  I was infiltrated the last two saturdays and I am beginning to wander if repeated infiltrations and using a sharp could damage by fistula.  I was somewhat embarassed to do so, but I contacted the charge nurse and made sure one nurse never sticks me again.  Another problem I have with this, is I come in on Tuesday after a rough Saturday session and my button holes are so tender and sore I dont want anyone touching them.

I had a graft, so no button holes for me, but I have a vague recollection of someone on here talking about using two sets of button holes so they could alternate.  Anyone with actual button holes, feel free to tell me I have it all wrong if my memory is on the fritz here.

Its good to have 2 sets of buttonholes, I only have 1 set and use them six days a week and they are sore, we are going to start another set after I have a fistulagram tomorrow.

I'm at the stage where the blunt goes into the arterial buttonhole fine, but they are having trouble getting a blunt into the venus. They have a try and then revert to a sharp.

Bub, I empathise completely re the varying abilites of the needlers. I either shudder in horror or smile in relief when I see who aproaches my cahir.
