Title: night sweats?
Post by: Choosin2bHappy on April 13, 2010, 05:34:34 PM
my brother has been on dialysis for 2 months and has been getting horrible night sweats for at least 3 weeks now...He has had a horrible time adjusting to it all, especially with his blood pressure either being too low or too high.  He is being seen by alot of doctors but in the meantime while we wait for tests...I thought I would ask if anyone else experienced this.   ???

has anyone had this happen after dialysis started?  He has them primarily at night but now in the day as well..he is cold during them.  I am very worried about him. They said his potassium is extremely low..they wanted him to take a pill but he asked for a more organic way by eating potatoes, etc.  He keeps losing strength too. Everthing went haywire after his "dry weight" needed calculated.

I get the same thing since starting dialysis.  I was told it was just part of the kidney failure.  It does tend to get better though.  It took me a few months to start feeling better.  My prayers will be with your brother. :flower;

Healthy kidneys play a large role in regulating the body's internal temps.  Failing kidneys leave most of us too cold, which isn't helped by the chronic anemia that comes with ESRD.  But the whole heat regulation system goes haywire, so it may be related to the night sweats as well.  A rapid drop in bp always made me break out in a massive seat, so if his is bouncing, it may be doing it in his sleep and causing the night time drenching.  Is he diabetic as well?  Glucose levels bouncing around will do the same thing.
