Title: I did something very stupid
Post by: Stoday on April 08, 2010, 07:39:21 AM
The good news — I'm typing this on the Linica, sailing off the coast of Italy. I thought I'd take a weeks cruise before I go on dialysis. That turned out to be a silly idea. I messed up the times I took my medications and I've been bad ever since the cruise started.

I would have liked to take the trip to Rome, but couldn't. Also to Pompeii, but again had to stay in my cabin. Oh dear!

The only good thing is that when I am hating dialysis I shall remember this and remember that I hate NOT dialysing even more.

That is so interesting.  I was thinking, I want to take a little trip before I have to start D.  So, should I rethink this?  It is almost like a Bachelorette party...one last hoorah.

My mom and other relatives want me to come out to California to visit next month, but I'm really in two minds about it.  I'm feeling OK at the moment, but I don't want to tempt fate.

Stoday, anything that makes you feel good about being on dialysis is worth it, in my book.  This trip to Italy might end up being more important to your psychological well being than you'd ever imagine.

Kind of off topic Moose Mom, but can you take your trip to Ca in June? That way you could attend our IHD mini meet on the 6th.

Hey — I'm OK now. Took 2 or 3 days to get over the change and start feeling better.

Tracy — be sure to give yourself a couple of days to get over the travel.

Now heading for the Balerics ETA 3pm this afternoon.

Stoday, the trip sounds incredible, but I am sorry your not feeling great.   Hopefully, the rest of the cruise goes well and you enjoy every minute.

Tracy, never give up an opportunity to travel, especially now.  I am pre and planning adventures keeps me going. I don't climb mountains! And we adjust what we do now. I just don't want to look back and say "I wish I would have---".    So, where are you going and what are you going to do?   We want details  LOL

Stoday------    :pics;    Share your adventure with us!

Still ups and downs I fear.

Went ashore in Palma, Majorca and found a super restaurant. Had a genuine Tornedos Rossini for the 1st time in 20 years. Made quite a pig of myself. Paid for it that night though. Felt sick all night. Only just got right again today.

Last day tomorrow, when we dock in Genoa. Then a transfer to Milan and a flight to London. I'll be knackered when I get home.

My husband and I went on a cruise in June 2008 thinking that when I get back I'd either be transplanting or starting dialysis, as we were waiting for the results of my husband (donor testing).  My nephrologist questioned me multiple times about the cruise saying "What if you get sick and really need to start dialysis?  Start vomiting?  etc."   Although we slept pretty much the entire time, we went anyway.  They ended up denying my husband as my donor, but luckily I didn't have to start dialysis yet.

In late Sept. 2008 when I received the news that they had accepted my sis-in-law to donate (we chose Nov. 5th), I had already made plans to the IHD Meet and Greet in Las Vegas.  Once again, my nephrologist was asking questions.  "What happens if you need to start dialysis before you get your kidney?"  yadda yadda.  I assured I would be fine and I was (thankfully).  THere is always that chance and you don't want to get sick.  Keep in mind on a cruise you are sometimes in confined spaces with a lot of strangers and worse, children.  Take extra precautions and watch what you eat.  I stuck to the pizza and punch.    :rofl;  Not the best choice....  ;D
