How long does a second kidney transplant last. I am currently waiting for my second kidney on two waiting lists. I was wandering how long would the second kidney last considering i do have a high antibody level from the first kidney. I know some transplant centers have different desensitization techniques to lower antibody levels

Mike, I don't think anyone can answer that questions. Some have kidneys that last 20 years, other have kidneys that last not even two weeks. That's what makes this disease so difficult.
Wish I had more info. If it helps any I am in the exact same situation. My first kidney lasted 12 years, and I have been waiting for my second since 2007. I am listed in Illinois and Wisconsin. It's taking awhile because I am type O and I refuse to accept and expanded criteria kidney.

My friend had her first kidney transplant last less than a year, the second was 3 years and the 3rd lasted 20 years. Now she's back on dialysis hoping for another. Her PRA is high so she will undergo treatment at Cedars Sinai.

My first lasted 4 1/2 years. Second lasted 15 yrs.
Both were cadever donations.

As far as I know there is a treatment in Ohio, called IVG antibody treatment. I think you have to have a live donor for this. WIth this treatment it lowers your antibodies. I think it is at teh Cleveland Clinic. You might want to do research on this. I know it sucks. I have high antibodies too.
