I am going to be calling the school where I hope to be going for Beauty School. Now, I am a bit nervous. I don't know whether to bring up my Dialysis, etc, now or at the in-person meeting? I just want to be looked at as every other person and not judged on my kidney disease! I need to be honest but also want to be seen as capable, and not some 'sick' person who cant perform. I know this is what I want to do but I am just scared I guess.
thanks!

I'm not sure I would even bring it up, unless they ask if you have a medical condition.
-
I think I'd only bring it up if there's going to be a problem with scheduling. Wait until people know you and then play it by ear. Good luck Karen.

I agree with monrein - I would only bring it up if there is an issue with the hours you need to be in school. If there is no conflict you don't even need to mention it. An employer cannot ask about medical conditions. I don't know about beauty schools.
Good luck

Are your school hours n the afternoon where D won't be a conflict in the hours? Me, I'm an open book & even though it's my husband on dialysis I'd probably share. I'm thinking at some point someone might see where your fistaula is especially if it is swollen like it usually looks. Or maybe you'll still have the bandage on. If someone says something and you don't want to be seen as a sick person, reinforce all the positive things. Like a how a short dialysis treatment can allow you to live a "normal" life still. Remember, a lot of people don't understand what dialysis really is so they would assuming things from an uneducated standpoint. Good for you for going to beauty school! Keep living life and live it to your fullest potenetial!

I dont think you should share this unless some one notices the fistula. Not likely tho and you can just give them a smile and tell them what it is for. They wont understand it, but they wont care anyways. I am happy you are going to Beauty School. My daughter went and I do taxes for another gal who is a hairstylist and they are earning some great money. Not at first of course, but when you get to the point where you can do a booth rental, it can get really good.

Thank You all so soo much! I have an interview tomorrow, and I am looking forward to actually doing something rather than saying, ''I'll do it tomorrow.'' I got on the phone, got a call back and have been getting some paper work together! I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow!
