I have been getting a air pocket on my venous line and never in my arteral..... I usually just pull it out with a syring but I cant figure out why I get this air pocket and where it comes from.......
I cannulate and then I pull the blood towards the end of the line and that is when I notice the air pocket....
any idea......here is a picture.......

Ooooooh Kathy, I can't help you, but I sure do hope some one else can and quickly. To a novice like me, that does not sound good.

try doing a wet stick.

It sounds like you are "pulling" the blood with a Syringe?, it should flow well by slightly opening the cap on the end of the line, open it to far and you get air in the line, but letting it out slowly and no air pockets.....
I get them if I open the cap on the end of the line to far and the blood moves to fast, slow down the blood flow and it doesn't happen......

I am doing a wet stick..... but this air pocket is coming out of my arm....... how can we get air from inside the vein..... today had had three of them ..... so I just pulled them out when I hooked up the saline needle..
has this happened to anyone else...

It happens to hubby when he tests the line before we hook up. I told him about it, now he goes slower and they do not appear. Thanks for the pic, it helped.
