Title: trying to make sence of this
Post by: sullidog on March 13, 2010, 05:10:07 PM
They have to put an access in my right arm because I have no good vaines in the left for another access. my dialysis team tells me even though my left arm can't be used as an access site anymore to still not let anyone use it for the things that access arms shouldn't be used for until my vascular surgeon clears it for use. What doesn't make sence to me is that my access is dead in my left arm so why can't they use it for other stuff? Right now they are using my right arm to do my bp and stuff. Shouldn't they make that arm off limits since it will be part of the new access and release the arm with the old access in it to be used for bp and stuff again?

Get to your Vascular Surgeon as soon as possible so that he will make some orders for nonuse of the good arm.  They won't do anything without an "order" from a Doc even if it does make sense.

Is it possible and this is just a guess but because you still have an access albeit out of action in your left arm, that a BP cuff could cause a blood clot?

That is a very good question, and I will ask my surgeon about that. If so guess they will have to take it on my leg, lol. I actually have had doctors do that.
