Hi all, I had originally posted in the Introduce yourself area, but wanted to post here as well. My mom is on dialysis, has been for 7 years, and she is 65. The past couple weeks have been rough. She came down with pneumonia, was in the hospital for 4 days, and came home Tuesday. She has been getting better, lots less congestion, and her lungs are clearing up. The problem now, is her diarrhea and occasional vomitting. I am not sure what is causing it. It could be the antibiotics, her new nebulyzer machine, etc. At her dialysis session today, she told them all about it, and they all said it is most likely due to the pneumonia, all that mucus clearing up etc. It is just really scary to see her like this and so miserable. She doesn't have the best control with her diarrhea, and usually can't make it to the bathroom on time. That is due to her diabetes I am sure. It hasn't even been a complete 2 weeks since all this started, and I know pneumonia has to run it's course and takes time, but anyone else deal with these things?

She may want to see her family doctor, this doesn't sound right to me what she was told.

So sorry to read that your mom is still so ill Melsyboo.I'm no expert on medical things so I'll only give you my opinion.
It more than likely is the antibiotics your mom is taking,they can make you feel even sicker sometimes.It also could still be stuff clearing out from her pneumonia.I have used a nebulizer for over 3 years and never had a reaction like she is having.If she doesn't feel any better soon,maybe you should contact her doctor.I wish you luck and hope your mom feels a lot better soon. Take care

Melsyboo, I can only tell you that the antibiotics given to me during my bout of 'suspected pneumonia' had the same effect on me. I hope things improve really quickly.

She seems to be a bit better today, small amount of diarrhea this AM, but not as frequent as yesterday. Hopefully, the rest of the day gets better. No vomitting either. We have a physical therapist coming this afternoon to show her some exercises that hopefully can get her legs stronger. Her wheezing is gone, and her coughing has gotten very minimal, so she's getting there!

Very happy to hear about this progress...may it continue until your Mom feels totally better. :flower;

Thanks for all your support! It helped ease my mind a bit. She had a good day today. Her appetite is coming back, no accidents, no vomitting!! The physical therapist came to evaluate her and they are going to come 3 days a week to work her leg muscles and build up her endurance. So, all is looking much better! Thanks again for all the support!
