Title: Scalp bump???
Post by: Brightsky69 on February 18, 2010, 12:32:21 PM
Ok...I have this little bump on my scalp. It feels about the size of a zit. I got my bf to look at tit and he said it looks like a dry scaly looking pimple. I went to the dermatologist and they froze it. The dermatologist said after freezing it should fall off completely. Not so...it's still there as before.
Is this a dialysis thing?? I am guessing its a wart or something. I've never had warts before...well one or two removed from my foot. Can I blame this on dialysis?? :puke;

I get those from time to time.

I've nailed it down to clopidogrel (Plavix). If I stop taking it for a week they go away.

Do you take Plavix?

Not sure of the cause but any little lump frozen off can take up to 6 weeks to drop off.

You knot head!

I really don't know, but I agree with KS it will take a few weeks for the freeze thing to work.  If it is not gone after six weeks go back in for another freeze burn.

If they're the same as I get, they are sebaceous (spelling?) cysts filled with fat.  So, you're not a knothead, you're a fathead  :rofl;

I get those and I am not even on dialysis.  Switch shampoos and dry your hair well after showering.  Drying and irritation triggering your immune system into overdrive is what causes seborrhea.  I rotate my shampoos between Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil, Pantene 2 in 1, and Suave Moisturing 2 in 1.  I never really had any luck with Neutrogena T-Gel, Salicyclic Acid or Selsun Blue although some claim they work.  The only thing I found to work was changing shampoo (any shampoo and conditioner) and warmer weather.  My scalp does the worst with cheap separate shampoo and conditioner.

I'm allergic to dust mites as well and a dust mite proof pillow cover and frequently changing pillowcases helps.

The freeze thing does work for awhile.  It doesn't seem to at first it will usually get you a month or two relief.

I have one too, on the upper RightSide of my head.

The only problem with them is that they can get infected.  I had a cyst on my back that became badly infected last year:  Red, swollen, painful.  My neph took one look at it and ordered Vancomycin bags, one per dialysis session.  That did it.  It came to a head and ruptured.  But I still needed to go to a surgeon to have it thoroughly cleaned of pus and infection.

before the transplant i had them on my head and legs, they were slowly getting worse as i got sicker. $ weeks on they are gone. Don't pick at them what ever you do, they get infected. It did ease a bit when i changed shampoo to a phos free one (hypo allergenic ones)

Update: I went back to my dermatologist and he said it was a "wart" type thing and that he could tell it was growing back. So they cut it off and did a biopsy. They also electrocuted the hair follicle it was growing out of. Hopefully it won't grow back. It still kind of itches...could just be the healing process.
Doc said he doesn't think it's anythig serious but he was gonna biopsy it anyway. Better safe than sorry.
