I left Alan at the hospital yesterday afternoon to have his op this morning. he went through the usual things, no food exct. He was having an op to "twiddle " his catheter because it is not draining properly and also they were going to try another fistula. Surgeon came in this morning at 7 decided not to do fistula, he doesn't like doing two ops at a time. Anesthetist came in and said they are canceling because he didn't realise about Alan's heart murmur, because he had not read the notes. Alan put his cloths back on to come home and they said hang on they are all discussing it ,so it may be back on. They made their minds up and it was a no go until he has more meds for his heart. :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;

Hey you cant complain , i mean after all you have nothing better to do than wait around all morning , stressed out . At least he got as far as getting into a gown ! What do these people actually do ? I find it so scary that they cant even read bloody notes properly, and i bet you got no apologies either? The amount of people this happens to is beyond a joke ! I know many people say ..oh but the NHS is free etc , but my god we pay for it in many other ways , with substandard care.

Oh my god, Ann. I'm so sorry. What are the plans now?

Alan was home for about 11. Apparently it was the Iotolla anesthetist that cancelled the op, he cancelled one before in October when they found Alan had got a murmur, but the surgeon went a head a few weeks after. The surgeon and Alan's neph were all for going a head to-day,there was a lot of niggling going on between them but the guy put his foot down. He did apologise for not reading the notes. So now we have to wait for a 24 hour heart monitor to be sorted and also some tablets that will help stabilize the heart. The thing is if it had been an emergency it would have been done. When we spoke to the heart specialist 2 weeks ago we explained that an operation was imminent and he was ok with it because it was only with a local anesthetic. I will keep you informed. :banghead; :banghead;

It was only a local? You are joking? I thought it was full blown knock out. Why on earth did he have to starve for a local? Has someone got their wires crossed as well as not reading notes?
-
KS you are so right. It was in fact supposed to be key hole surgery this time, and a dig round for a vein for a fistula.I think once you venture off with some other specialist ie heart that they do not communicate and notes go missing. Husbands file is so heavy over the years you need a trolley to move it. I was only saying the other week "they have meetings every week" I think they have meetings and don't talk, what do you reckon?
-
Crazy! I'm sorry they are putting you both through this.

I had a similar situation well sorta. My graft surgery got delayed a day because my dietition told me my potassium was low but she didn't want anything done about it yet, note at the time I was having a fast heartbeat, so low and behold when they did my presurgery EKG they canceled it because of the low potassium the EKG was a bit off so they ended up having to give me potassium all because the dietition chose to ignore it.
I do hope this gets sorted out for you.
Good luck.

If people in the "lower" ranks of life did what these Drs. do, they would lose their job right now. I went to the hospital for a hysterectomy, all the way in another city, made all the arrangements at my job, etc, got there, walked all over the danged hospital getting pre op tests done, lugging my suitcase, and then was told, oh, no we cancelled that, we will let you know when you can come in for that surgery. Well, crap, thanks a lot folks, I have nothing better to do. Incompetnce, ya gotta love it. But, hang in there, it will get done, sooner or later.

They don't give a hoot as long as they are making there 6 figure income. :Kit n Stik;

We had a letter Friday and "wait for it" they have rescheduled the operations for March. What is this all about? They cancelled 2 weeks ago because my husbands heart was too bad, but hey nothing has changed, the heart fairy has not been down and given him a new heart. What is going on, is the Iotula anesthetist going on holiday and they are slipping us in so he doesn't know. Keep you informed.
-
:urcrazy; Wow! Give them a call and ask what's up?
-
okarol, He went for his pre med to-day, saw the same anesthetist " Iotola" and he said that it could be called off again because they had not done any thing for his heart from 2 weeks ago. They have to discuss this issue. Still have to wait and see. He said also if it was cancelled again he would not have to have another pre med.Well hokey cokey :banghead; :banghead;
-
So hurry up and wait some more, huh? :cuddle;
-
okarol, Just as I said, it has been called off again. They now say he is draining ok or enough not to bother with invasive surgery even though it is not sited in the right place. Still on going.
