Title: artificial sweetners and the kidneys
Post by: sullidog on January 19, 2010, 06:11:25 PM
Hi all. Was wondering I've heard that artificial sweetners damage the kidneys, I was just wondering what could they do to them?
Thanks,
Troy

This is a low tech answer, Troy. I looked into this when I was trying to improve my kidney function in order to donate to my husband (wasn't successful, but off topic.)

The kidneys have to work harder to filter the molecules of the artificial sweeteners out of the blood. By digging in to the information on every single artificial sweetener I found buried the warning that they should not be used by those with kidney disease. That was enough for me. I did NOT find this info on the stevia based sweeteners, which is what I use now.

yeah we practically eat splenda... I asked the dietician if there were any that were bad for the kidneys and she said "not to her knowledge"
