Title: Transplant games
Post by: lizabee on January 04, 2010, 04:21:33 PM
Has anyone ever been to the transplant games?  We are planning on going this summer (July 30-August 4, IN Madison, WI).  I am going to compete in the swimming and my husband and I are going to compete together in the ballroom dancing.

Not only is my husband going with me, but my daughter, dad, and donor.

Should be a good time!

Sarah went in 1994 Georgia, 1996 Utah and 1998 Ohio. Her main interests were bowling, swimming and table tennis. She still holds the bowling record for girls 18 and under!

You will enjoy them very much!! You get to meet many transplant recipients, donors and the opening and closing ceremonies are very emotional and touching. The Games are a very rewarding experience and promotes organ donation!! I am so glad you will get to experince it!

Ballroom dancing must be something rather new.....wasn't offered when we went.

Sorry couldn't resist posting pictures.......

I would love to go and compete in bowling.  When is the cut off for registration for a team?

I would contact your local National Kidney Foundation to get more information about the games.

I got all my info from my transplant office, I don't know if there's a deadline, but they have pics and it looks like so much fun!  The pics you posted are awesome!

Here it's Donate Life of Illinois and NKF of Illinois coordinating the team stuff. Here there was a cut off date because so many people sign up for certain sports that they have to  choose who's best to compete in that field.. I may or may not go to watch. Haven't lloked into train cost or hotel stay for at least 2 days. Not gonna attempt to drive from Chicago area.

Here's a site that can help you contact the right people in your state.

http://www.kidney.org/news.tgames2010/index.cfm

I just tried opening this site on here and it didn't work. I can get it outside of using IHD, so give that a try.
