So I'll be going back on PD sometime in January, and my dialysis nurses tell me I'm to report to them to do the first flush the day after surgery. This is not how the other clinic did it when I first started on dialysis, they let it heal first.
Anyone out there know if it's a good idea to flush it so early, before its finished healing? If I recall correctly we waited 2 weeks for it to heal before using it when I first went on PD 6 years ago at a different clinic.

I had mone placed in July and they waited a week before they even took the bandages off. Then flushed it at the same time.
I have heard some new Tubes are ready to use in days? But i do like the idea of letting wounds heal at least a little?
Sorry to hear you will be doing dialysis again.

You surprise me, my husband has had 2 tubes fitted and had to wait for 2 weeks to heal before they gave him a flush. Such is technology. Good luck any way.

Both times I had my PD catheter put in, they flushed it the day after surgery and a couple more times before I actually "used" it.

The nurse tested my cat. a few hours after the surgery and there was no flush until two weeks later.

They flushed my cath 3 hours after my surgery to make sure everything works. They didn't flush it anymore until 2 weeks later when I started my PD training.
