So I haven't been on here in some time, but I'm always thinking about everyone on here!
So while I've been away, we have finally reached the end of this road, and will get to start on the next!
Richie will be getting a kidney transplant at UCSF Med Center, on February 11 2010!!!
He will be getting the kidney from his mom, who is type A (rich is type O); this type of transplant is an ABO Incompatible transplant, and so Richie will have to do plasmapheresis, which will remove the plasma, and take out the antibodies.
We are super excited, and just wanted to share the news!!!

I love UCSF. They have some of the nicest doctors (even the surgeons). I do believe that Richie and his mother are in good hands.

ok so total suckage! Richie is in the hospital tonight (12/15) for a peritonitis infection.... it looks like we caught it really early, but we wont really know till the morning.
I guess that we are lucky that we caught it early, and the it happend now and not closer to the surgrey, but it just seems like its always something....
But at least this way we can say we've dealt with basically every possible thing that a kidney patient deals with...
it still sucks...
please keep us in you thoughts and prayers - we are hoping that this doesnt mess up the transplant at all...

Will be thinking about you, hang in there.

So Richie got out of the hospital yesterday evening; he's feeling ok. We go for our monthly appointment on the 29th, so we will find out what's going to happen with the transplant; but the doctors were fairly confident that our transplant won't be affected.
The infection was caught so early that he never got a fever, and the cultures never grew anything; the only symptom was that his fluid was cloudy and he had a bit of pain in the ab area.
here is hoping everything is really still on track!
