Title: Renal vitamins

Hello
I reside in the US and my father is on dialysis since 2002 in Eastern Europe. He was recently informed that there are renal vitamins available in the US and I did some research (nephronex, vitaganic etc) but it's pretty confusing and I don't know what to send him. I was wondering if there is a general consensus on which ones are the best. I would really appreciate your advice.

I'm not in the US so I'm not sure if I'm any help - but all I take is a generic vitamin D, and ascorbic acid.

I take Rena-Vite, but it's a prescription.

My nutritionist has me on DialyVite 800 with Zinc.  It's fairly good for a cheap product without prescription.

Most vitamins for dialysis have relatively the same thing in them.  The big difference usually is in the levels of folic acid in them. Presciptions usually have more folic acid than OTC renal vitamins.

OTC renal vitamins are usually far cheaper than prescription.

I switched to OTC after the company that made generic renal vitamins quit making them.


Prescription generic was 10.00 for 30 days, name brand was 21.00 for 30 days and Dialyvite is about 15.00 for 100 days.

I buy Dialyvite 800 and then supplement it with extra OTC folic acid.

We use RenaVite (prescription) mail order from Walgreens, $16 for 3 month's supply, and free shipping.....

My nutritionist suggested I take Renal Tab II from Renal Lab.  It's over the counter.

We use Dialyvite 800, OTC.  It's cheap, and good.  They are relatively all the same, except for pricing and prescription.

I was started on Nephrovite, but they advised us to switch to full spectrum B plus C, which is OTC and is the exact same formulary.  I can't remember the manufacturer, but I buy mine at any Kaiser pharmacy.  Since it's OTC, anyone can buy it whether they are a Kaiser patient or not.

I'm on Dialyvite 800 with Zinc, which does not require a prescription.

I also take 100 mcg selenium and 500 mg L-Carnitine daily.

Hubby on Renaltab I and fish oil in the morn as well.  Gonna check difference of Renaltab I and II for next order and cant remember price...   :blank:

Thanks so much everyone, I am going to order some dialyvite off the web - much cheaper than the $28/month Renax I have been getting from the pharmacy and it appears to be the same ingredients.  I love saving money  :2thumbsup;

Mine are prescription and PartD doesn't cover them. They cost  little over $18 a month. Name is Folbee Plus .
