I've been on CCPD for less than a week now and I'm starting to hold fluid. I never had that before. It started yesterday around my ankles. I'm urinating less. I have not changed anything (fluid intake, diet) since I started.
Would anyone know why that happens?

Goofy, are you draining out what you put in. Alan has been back on capd for about 3 weeks and after doing hemo it takes a while to settle down. Our nurse always says " you drain out what you put in, plus a little more". The first week was not good, his weight went up and up so she has put him on 3 green bags and an extraneal at night. All green bags are not good for the peritoneal, they are very strong, but until his weight is down that is what he is on. it has took 2 weeks to get his weight down by 1 kilo he also had swollen legs and hands. He is really watching his fluid in take, having a cup of tea instead of a mug of tea. His neph has also prescribed half a water tablet a day. Gradually it is going down. What color bags are you using?

On my last drain of the night i have to stand up to get all the eccess out of me. I usualy pull off about 550UF a night give or take. But if i did not stand at the end of my last drain i owuld only take off about 125 UF. Everyones PD cath is in a differnt position. Some people drain fine laying down, or sitting some like me have to stand to get all the eccess out.
Anything that doesnt come out can find its way south once your up and moving around.

My only guess is that you are peeing less but also you are technically adding more fluid to your body wiuth the PD fluid, and also you should give your body a chance to adjust to this. Is your blood pressure high? PD + high blood pressure + less pee= possible fluid retention.
This is my guess. I am on PD too but I dotn retain fluid, this just makes sense to me.

Billybangs, I LOVE your picture!!
The first and third night I used one yellow and one green. The second one and last night I used two green bags. I was going to use one yellow and one green but when I went in for follow up, they say the fluid and said to use two green bags.
I guess its just trial and error right now. The thing is, my weight has not really fluctuate. I seem to "gain" approximately 4 pounds when I weight myself at night but I usually loose it when I'm done in the morning.

My renal team told me there's really not much difference to your peritoneum with the yellow and/or green bags - and that it was the higher ones than that that they wanted to avoid. Just use two greens till you settle and see how you go.

Goofy, Alan went to see neph yesterday and she said he has a little fluid and is not draining out very well because the tube is too high up, "they took another x-ray" With all these green bags the fluid is coming off very slowly and so he might have to do a few, wait for it PINK BAGS never heard of these. So we will see how we go, that's when they get back to us. Hope you are doing a bit better now.
