Trying to be medical as I can be with this as not to offend anyone, but do the kidneys process Marijuana, and if so would daily use turn it into toxins on the in between days of dialysis? I do not like it but my husband on dialysis does. Not trying for anything controversial here, just the facts. Thank you. Always wondered.

I was told by my nephrologist that it can raise your blood pressure. I have never asked about toxicity. (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=new-culprits-in-chronic-pain) Scientific America has an article this month regarding it's use for pain relief. However, if you are on a transplant list smoking marijuana is a disqualifier, so don't tell.

An advisory panel, set up by the UK government found cannabis less harmful than tobacco or alcohol in a report earlier this month. There was a big row over the issue because the finding was politically inappropriate.

I think that by now we all know what we eat or drink or digest has an affect on our bodies. I think marijuana will affect our kidneys, liver and brain..... I don't have any facts to this... just a thought.
I personally would not use it, I am trying to preserve the little health I have left. ( I am not judging if you do use it.)

There is something about smoking dope and your immune system and rejection. So, quit using if you want a transplant. If you lie, then you will waste a much needed kidney.

Some very good points to bring up to my husband. I hope they don't go in one ear & out the other. Personally I hate the stuff. I guess this would be one more thing to add to his non-compliance list. I can't make him do anything, but I CAN inform him. The last week I've really been concentrating on ME. I have a life too! lol. Thanks for everything.

The kidneys do process a bit, but not totally. When tested for immediatly after a dialysis treatment it shows up. It is definatly a deal breaker as far as a transplant goes. You could, I suppose "lie" about it, but that would cause a missed kidney for someone else.

There is one guy at my center that has a script for it, they have never said anything to him about it causing any problems...I don't know
