Just wondering if anyone has hot flashes after their hemo treatments. I have been on PD since Feb. 2009 but am currently doing hemo (for the second time) due to another abdominal surgery. My first round of hemo I was cold all the time. This time I seem to get hot flashes afterwards. Especially if I try to go grocery shopping of something. And I don't just get hot. I actually break out in a sweat! Like running down my back sweat. It's gross! Is it just me or does anyone else have the same problem? ???

I have hot flashes during hemo. usually they warn me that i am going to cramp. I have had night sweats for years. Now, if the house isn't cold (and I mean cooler than 65 degrees) I sweat like mad and end up with soaked and foul sheets. Just another one of those things that have to be endured, i guess as no doc has ever seemed much worried about it to do anything to help fix it.

I get pretty warm during hemo too...I'm all rolling up my pant legs and trying to get my sweatshirt off! Today I had them turn the temp down on the machine 2 degrees and what a difference :2thumbsup; I don't even bother to bring in a blanket anymore, but everyone else complains its too cold in there so I don't know what's up with me.
I have gotten a few hot flashes, but before I even started hemo. I'm sure it was kidney disease related though, I'm only 33! But I believe that our hormones can be pretty screwed up because of this disease. It scared the crap out of me when it happened, it was like every pore in my body opened up and poured sweat! Gross :P Told my neph and he dismissed it like it was unrelated.

Usually I had been cold on dialysis but the last 2 or so months I've been getting some hot flushes during dialysis. The nurses quipped that it was male menopause and had a good laugh about it (while sweat dribbles down my back! LOL). It can get quite uncomfortable and we have tried any number of things. At first we tried increasing my dry weight, but that wasn't it (and going down just lead to cramp city, so I know I'm OK there).. then machine temp (I always ran at 35.5 but have been trying 35 lately - it helps some). I thought I'd solved the problem by going back to a "K2" bath from a "K1"(my K was a bit high) but it's crept back a bit. If I turn my UF off for about 10 minutes that seems to do the trick, yet it doesn't seem to be a dry weight issue. Doesn't matter if I use a UF profile or not. It's annoying but i'd rather be sweating out fluid than cramping so.... hey if I need a 10 minute UF break I'll take it.
No flushes after dialysis though. Cool as a cucumber (unless I think of the women of IHD..... :yahoo; :rofl;)

I was cold on hemo for 10 years, but now doing nocturnal I am like a little hot engine sometimes. I sweat the bed wet on hemodialysis some nights.
