Hi all,
About 3 days ago, I was eating some fruits and veggies, and some of it went down the wrong way and ended up lodged in my lower respiratory tract. I managed to cough most of it out since, but one significant piece is still way down there and giving me coughing spasms. I have my own stethoscope so I can hear it bouncing around somewhere at the entrance to my left bronchial tube.
Well, it ain't coming out, and I'm tearing up my throat with all this coughing. So I mentioned it to my dialysis center. To my surprise, they told me I needed to go to the E.R. to prevent "aspiration pneumonia." So that's where I'm heading tomorrow. I had hoped that my Primary Care Physician could do something, but they said no.
I know, compared to some of the problems folks here have reported, this sounds pretty trivial. But it's MORE annoying than any of the kidney symptoms I currently have (like it's disturbing my sleep), so I just wanted to vent.

Probably about as annoying as one of our neighbors, who has had hiccups, nearly all the time for over 3 years. I hope yours is easy to take care of and you are feeling un-annoyed really soon.

That does sound like it could be annoying and frustrating. I hope you get better soon.
I just recently had a cyst removed from my eye and the stitches came loose but got stuck and rubbed my top eye lid every time I blinked. I tell you, that about drove me up the wall and I screamed at my husband, which I never do, and had to leave the house for his safety. I had a bilateral nephrectomy with a huge incision and that wasn't as bad as having the loose stitch in my eye!
We totally understand how it is the little things that can be the most annoying. Hang in there

if it ever happens again, head straight for the er. my son spent 30 days in icu at children's hospital one year because he aspirated 2 watermellon seeds. nothing to muck around with.

Speedy recovery wishes coming your way. I hope they can get this cleared up PDQ!

I asked my daughter about this (she's not a doctor but she's a speech pathologist) and she said what happened to you could be serious. Your lungs could become infected. I wouldn't say your situation is trivia at all. Please let us know how things went at the emergency room.

Did you read the news article about someone who had something lodged in his throat for years and was constantly coughing, until one day he coughed it up and hasn't coughed since! I know that when I have a cough it is annoying, I can only imagine if something was stuck in there too! Hope all goes well.
