Title: The darn phone is ringing
Post by: silverhead on September 24, 2009, 07:55:28 AM
How come the phones can sit silent all day (that's just fine by me), but just as soon as I pick up the needles or am inputting the numbers for the days run into the NxStage, either the home phone or the cell decides to ring? I usually just ignore it at those times and call whoever later, but I am old and set in my ways and anything that upsets my routine seems to play havoc with my mind, I have to stop and go over all my steps to make sure things are in order, all the time muttering about idiots that call at the wrong time. Anybody else go through this?
Tom

I'm reminded of an old joke.  A man was visiting a farmer and the farmer's phone kept ringing.  Finally, the visitor could stand it no longer and said, "Aren't you going to answer the phone?"  The farmer replied, "I had that thing installed for MY convenience, and it just ain't convenient for me to answer it right now!"  That's the way I run my life.  My phone is for my convenience (as is my front door), and if I don't feel like answering either one, I don't.  If I do answer my phone and no one speaks immediately, I just hang up; it's almost always a telemarketer.

silverhead, when we were doing dialysis, I always had the phone with me in case of an emergency but I turned the ringer off while I was setting up maching and getting Len hooked up. When I was finished I would turn the ringer back on and see if anyone called, it just became another part of the routine. Just an idea.  :cuddle;

Tom, I am the same when doing anything that takes several steps. If I am interrupted, I start all over.  An age thing for me? Probably.   Doing Nxstage, it isn't like baking a cake and missing a step!  I feel your frustration   :cuddle;

Peleroja,   It took me years to figure out that I didn't have to answer the phone or door just because someone choose that moment to contact me.  It is very liberating!!

Tom, I think it is some kind of a law. You know, you sit and wait for the Dr. to call,as I amdoing right now, but the second I walk away, the phone will ring. Probably not him. Thank God for answering machines.

I'm pretty good at ignoring the phone. There've been times when it rang and was only 6 feet from me -- at the other end of the couch -- but I had a cat or dog on my lap. Therefore, impossible to reach. I've been known to lose the phone for days at a time, not on purpose, just because I forget about it until Friday evening, when I need to call to check in with a friend for Saturday morning walk / coffee plans. Then a phone-hunt ensues. I'll have to develop better habits when I get listed!

But isn't it nice to be that popular and wanted?  Somebody call me.

I guess this is the ESRD version of the phone ringing as soon as you step into the shower.

There are many times when I don't want to be disturbed.  I just let my voice mail system handle the call.

Because 4 times out of 5, when I rush to answer the phone, it's a telemarketer anyway.

Oh yeah, I know that feeling!  The funniest thing is to see me with my bag and IV pole and my husband with his crutches and broken ankle running for the cordless phone that we have no idea where we left it.   :rofl;  It always stops ringing the minute we get to it!
