Title: Have you gone on a diet?
Post by: KICKSTART on September 18, 2009, 08:36:42 AM
while doing hemo?  I see there is a diet support group posting. But i want to know if you have gone on a diet just because you wanted too ! (not because you've been told too) Since PD and now onto Hemo , where my appetite has gone through the roof!!!! Ive put on quite a bit of weight , too much for my liking! and mentioned this to one of the nurses and she said ..no way go on a diet now , eating well is a sign of good dialysis , so dont start messing with your diet , you keep eating well. So any one been told similar ? what do you do ?

Be careful of gaining too much weight, it messes with your dry weight and may cause you to crash during treatment. I have to watch my portions when I eat. No second helpings and no more desserts after each meal, even if it is sugar free and low fat. I try to stay active but do not have an exercise routine like they want me to do. Good luck.

tell that nurse, BULL PUCKY!!! my neph just added "expect weight loss" to my orders and told me good luck. yes you can diet and it has nothong to do with the quality of dialysis. i've lost 40 pounds since i started and not had a single dialysis problem related to my diet.

If I start to gain weight I just start watching my protions.  Smaller and no seconds.
