Title: Donor being tested
Post by: bountyhunter_ga on September 18, 2009, 07:46:40 AM

How is everything going with all y'all.
After a year waiting first with Emory and Now at Piedmont Hospital here in Atlanta.
 It has taken 3 months to complete the process at Piedmont where as Emory took 10 months and lied to us on top of that.
 I keep trying to put that place behind me but as you all know every day I hook up to the Dialysis is another day  out of my life.

My donor goes in for his day of test on Sept 30., and it takes two weeks to get results.
I'm looking at maybe sometime in the middle of October we can have the transplant.
The only things that scares me is having my heart give up the day before the operation.
One of my fellow deputies had a massive heart attack late Tuesday night. At the same time at home I was going through sweats and clammy skin. My wife was beside her self wanting to take me to the hospital. You all know if you have any kind of heart problem you come off the able to receive a kidney list.
I don't think I could do 10 years of dialysis

Hey, Bounty Hunter!

Even though Piedmont is moving faster than Emory, I would be cautious about setting a date too early. They have to dot their i's and cross their t's and it takes time.

And I want to share how my husband feels about dialysis. Instead of saying it takes time away from his life, he says that he has 20 hours/day that he would not otherwise have. I really like that attitude.  :2thumbsup;

Best wishes for smooth sailing.

Aleta

You guys are right about giving a better quality of life than no dialysis at all, If you come up with a little heart attack they take you off the available to transplant list. Its bad enough to watch some of the older people around me at the center knowing some of them won't be there in a year. That's not for me. Oh well I guess we do what we have to in order to survive another day.

I hope your donor flies through all the tests! I hope your heart holds out as well.

I recently had the same scare.... I am on a transplant list for a year now (pre-dialysis) and my heart's bottom half just stopped and the top half went at a pulse of 220 (SVT). Needless to say it was a VERY tense time to have the angiogram done a month after the SVT to see if all was clear for the possible transplant. It was but every now and again I get a fast pulse for no apparent reason.... hope mine holds out as well.
