Tucson woman uses Craigslist for kidney

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A Tucson mother has been on a kidney transplant list for four years.

Her type O blood has made it difficult for Diane White to find a match. None of her family members are able to donate a kidney.

As she searches for a new kidney, White is turning to an unusual source. She's taken out an online ad in Craigslist.

Lee Cauble, a nurse at Desert Dialysis, said that despite the misconception, it's perfectly legal for strangers to donate their kidney as long as it's not for financial gain.

Cauble says potential donors go through rigorous testing to make sure that not only are they in good physical health, but good mental health and are really donating a kidney out of the goodness of their hearts.
