Title: Whats your heart rate usually at?
Post by: sico on August 30, 2009, 05:38:07 AM
As above, whats your heart rate usually when rested?

My heart rate sits between 52 - 62 most mornings when i check my blood pressure, which is around 130/80 on average.
Even when i was on HD at the hospital, it was in the 50's. Some of the nurses would comment on it asking if i played a lot of sport, but i don't.
I am on a beta blocker, does anyone know if this effects resting heart rate?

for what it's worth mine is usually in the 70's. I was on BP meds till last year but have been off them for over a year now because my BP was getting too low while on hemo.

Beta blockers slow down your heart rate.

Its recommended if your heart rate goes below 50 to notify your doctor.

My heart rate is 55-60 without medication, but I exercise quit a bit.

Wow, thats good. Only one of mines been cut in half.
When i did the cardiac stress test, they weren't happy that i'd taken the beta blocker. I guess they thought it would effect my capacity on the treadmill, my legs gave out first anyway.

Yeah I was on coversyl for like 14 years, then my BP was usually on the low side for me (like ~100/60) so they decided to take me off them. For a year or so my BP stayed fine but the last couple of months it's been creeping up say ~140/85 so I wonder if maybe I should be back on a low dose. I'll see how my next labs are and drop a note to the neph I think as it concerns me a tad, though the nurses seem to think it's fine so maybe it's not a big deal. Pulse is between 70 and 80, though I did once come off at 115, but I think that was football related  :rofl;

Beta blockers will lower your heart rate. I was on them for several months when my kidney function was up, because I was always dehydrated and my heartrate was always 120+.

sico, I've found that beta blockers make my legs give out faster. Lower heart rate = less blood pumping = less oxygen getting to the extremities = muscles give out faster. I always had trouble climbing stairs when I was on beta blockers, because my legs burned out, not because I ran out of breath or my heart felt strained.

That makes sense Restorer. I hate treadmills, that was my first time on one too.

I guess no one beats me yet. My rate on the morning is about 46-55. No bp medicine. Only walk 3-5 miles a day. No any doctors to raise concern about it yet.

supra ventricular trachicardi (not sure about the spelling) The bottom part of the heart stops to beat and the bottom part goes at 220

I was in ICU for 2 days.....

At Dialysis today my pulse was in the 70's and not too bad... but then they sent me some (young, cute, female) medical students.... it went up to 89!  :rofl; >:D (the nurses concluded I was a perfectly healthy male!!!)

Mine has hovered in the mid 50s for years, without blockers and is officially described as "athletic"
which if you look at my 6ft 5in 121kg. carcass you would have to giggle. :rofl;
