Title: The PET Test?
Post by: bmevans on June 29, 2009, 07:48:16 PM
The PET test was given to me 4 1/2 years ago and I was told that I had a LOW transfer rate, meaning I had to dwell longer for adequate clearance.  My KT/v usually came out around 2.02.
About three months ago my KT/v went down to 1.86 and has continued to hover around this number.
My nurse wanted to do another PET test before she and the doctor changed my perscription.  I went along with it and she told me that I came out with a HIGH transfer rate.  She ran it again and received the same result.  I can see moving from a high to a low but not the other way around.  Has anyone experienced this or heard of this before and is their another TEST that is available?  Thanks!  :thumbup;

Is it possible the first PET was wrong?  My GFR has been running at 4% for about 2 years.  I recently had lab work and it came out at 6%.  Don't think so, not after 2 years.  Labs do make mistakes.

Oh how I know you're right Peleroja, especially when they send your labs out of state.  My nurse
talked to someone at Fresenius and was told my membrane may not be filtrating as well.  It's all so
complex and having to trust others to make the right decisions is sometimes hard for me to do.  Oh
well, back to living a day at a time.  Thanks for your input!

I dont know about the changes but, you've only had one PET test 4 years ago? Over here we have one every 12 months, if all is ok this time i would chase them up to do one at least every 12 months, for you to keep an eye on how things are going  :thumbup;

Thanks Kickstart,

I will definitely do so from now on!  Now they are saying my 1st PET test was wrong, 4 1/2 years ago!  These recent ones have been sent to Baxter and Fresenius for diagnostics and came back correct.  I wonder if I will feel any different?  Maybe better?  And the money my insurance and medicare pay these people?  Like the footsteps in the sand, I guess Jesus has been carring me all along!
