When I was trying to get my shirt on this morning it caught on that scab on my fistula and came off. Blood started shooting all over. I immediately put my fingers on it and I could feel the pressure. I only had half my shirt on and no bra. GREAT! At least I wasn't in the tub naked.
I had to call 911 and the paramedics and ambulance came and took me to ER. My vascular surgeon saw me there and he is going to try and sew it up tomorrow at 2:00.
There was blood all over. Gotta go........ :puke;
-
Sorry Rerun, that sucks!
-
Yikes! Thank God you don't faint at the sight of blood - I would have been out cold on the floor. :P
I hope the vascular doc can fix it up! :cuddle;
-
Oh, how awful. Here is hoping all goes well with the fix.

Good thing you kept your cool. I hope everything gets taken care of ASAP, Rerupe
-
Sorry to hear about this Rerun, but you handled it well.
I hope the surgeon can fix it so this won't happen again.
-
What a colossal drag Rerun. I hope they can fix it up and soon. :cuddle;
-
That's terrible.
I'm glad you kept your wits about you and didn't panic. You handled it great.
I hope your vascular surgeon can fix it. Keep us posted.

I am so sorry. It sounds like you have had a hell of a day. I hope he gets it all fixed up and in tip top shape.
What can I do to make your day end on a good note? I can sing for ya. I am even willing to sing off key and make it an Abba song. ;)
No really I do hope you get some sleep tonight and fix the problem tomarrow and start new. Hang in there. :cuddle;
-
It does sound like you kept your wits about you and did what you needed to do to get help.
Bravo you!! :2thumbsup;
(but sorry it happened too.)
-
:cuddle; Oh rerun, that sucks. Hope everything is better today. :cuddle;
-
:grouphug;
Half-naked - of course. Murphy's law of dialysis patients at work.
Hang in there!
-
:oops;
:cuddle;
-
Oh Rerun---what a mess! Thank goodness you kept your head and called 911. It seems like it is just one thing after another right now. I'm sorry :cuddle;
-
How scary that must have been for you. I hope you are doing OK now, hope to hear an update soon.
-
Oh Lord. I am so sorry you had to go through this. Hope today turned out good.

After eating nor drinking nothing after midnight last night and going to the surgery check-in at 11AM and lying there for 4 hours they finally "cancelled" my surgery. The surgeon had been up all night and all day and he could not do it
SO...... they are going to try and dailyze me at the center tonight and I can eat breakfast at 5AM and check in at noon to the surgery center and we will try it again at 4:00PM tomorrow.
I'll keep you posted. Thank you for all the well wishes. :stressed; :waiting;
-
Did they stitch you up in the ER or just wrap you up till it stopped bleeding? Gosh Rerun you sure have some half naked adventures out there! :grouphug;
-
What a bummer for you Rerun. It really doesn't take much does it!!!
-
OMG Rerun you really deserve a break!!
I remember the same thing happening to my dad and it wasn't pretty. I still don't think I will ever see as much blood come out of someones body!!
Good job keeping a level head and ringing 911. Half naked and all!
lying there for 4 hours they finally "cancelled" my surgery.
I can't believe they cancelled the surgery, that is just crazy :urcrazy;
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;

Good luck Rerun. I don't think I could have reacted as well as you did if I was there. Half naked I probably would have been thinking other things ;) especially if you had the bleeding under control.. >:D.. :rofl; only kidding Rerun. Glad you have it under control. I just don't understand why they havent done anything about this since you have had the bubble for awhile.
-
Sorry to hear about the delay. It sounds as though it may be for the best though if the surgeon would not have been in top form.
I hope the surgery goes as planned now and that it is successful for you. :cuddle;
-
Good luck let us know how your doing. :cuddle;

I did dialyze Tuesday night with no problems. She took the pressure badage off my "old faithful" hole and it didn't look so bad. Just a scab the size of a pea.
I checked into the surgery area at noon and saw the surgeon at 2:00 and we both agreed that we should let it heal on its own.
He cannot guarantee that it won't blow again, but he also can't guarantee that if he does surgery they will be able to stick my fistula for a few weeks.
I'll try the healing.
I've emailed my Nephrologist about using a single needle for awhile. They used them years ago. They are 12ga and have two holes at the end. One side sucks the blood and one returns the blood. That way the could still use the bottom half of my fistula.
So, I'm at at home.....healing.
-
I'm glad you are healing. Ohhh, I thought the 2 holed needles needed a special machine, hmmm learned something new.
-
:waving; rerun. Good choice on the trying to let it heal. I know the clinic Len went to were still using the single needle on a couple of patients. I'll be thinking about you and hope it heals fast. :cuddle;
-
Guess I don't quite understand how you can just allow it to heal, maybe because I'm not on dialysis and I am not quite schooled on the whole procedure but it does not sound very safe to me.
-
So to end this thread... it did not heal and the surgeon fixed it and left enough room to dialyze for a couple weeks. I got the stitches out today and he said to give it another week before we access the main part. He has started another fistula in my right upper arm but he said he would give me a break for awhile. I only have to go back for an ultrasound in 2 weeks. So.... NOTHING for awhile!
:yahoo;
-
Well i'm glad you have a little closure. Hope your new fistula lasts a lifetime. :-*
-
I'm glad you're ok. Dealing with blood in any situation isn't a picnic.
I had my graft for thirteen years and never had a problem until the last two years where it was just becoming a pain in the ass.
So the doctor's keep telling me how amazing my new fistula will be and how problem free it will make my life.
Surgery: March 12th. We let it heal for two months. Two hematomas since.
Never had anywhere near this problem with my graft.
But still, the doctors continue to ignore my comments because the nephrologist refers all the patients to the same vascular surgeon for the procedure.
A little boys club of treatment for Dialysis patients? Oh, you bet.
Take care Rerun. Here's to a whole new set of red blood cells to make you feel better.
-
Sorry to hear what you have gone thru Rerun.
For some reason, I'm a little queezy from reading about that adventure. To many bad memories from the fistula and graft surgeries and all the blood coming out I guess.
