Title: Jehovah Witnesses and Amish Community, how do they cope?
Post by: kristina on April 27, 2009, 03:33:20 AM
Jehovah Witnesses and Amish Community, how do they cope?
Because of the concerns of the Jehovah Witnesses towards blood-transfusions
and  their concerns when their health reaches a point of emergency,
and because of the Amish Communities concern about using electricity etc.,
I was wondering whether these two communities have developed certain
ways  of prolonging  their kidney function?
Does anyone know? Thanks again, Kristina.

There was a JW on dialysis with me 20 years ago and that was before we had Epogen.  She was a limp leaf and would not get a blood transfusion.  Today, we have Epo so I'm sure it is easier for them.  They will get a transplant as long as the blood is washed from the organ (and it is) and as long as they don't need a blood transfusion during surgery.
