There is one area where the staff (both nurses and techs) have stabbed over and over again. It formed a big scab about 2 weeks ago which forced them to move somewhere else. The scab finally came off yesterday and there is a small area about the size of a pencil head eraser that is really thin. It feels like there is no vein under it and the pulse of the blood makes it bulge out.
I folded a piece of gauze in firths and put 2 bandaids over it as somewhat of a pressure bandage.
It looks scary. I have dialysis tonight and I will show it to them.
I've said in the past that as long at the tech or nurse can get a stick on their shift that is all they care about. Not about the life of the fistula. Ed is the exception but he was gone for 8 weeks and then it was a free for all.
:banghead;
-
They were able to dialyze me last night. Whheeew They said I should get it looked at but who do I get to look at it? I doubt my surgeon will have any concern.......
:flower;

Hi, Rerun,
See your vascular surgeon about it. My husband has a very slight bulge in his fistula and the nurses said that it was an aneurysm and we should avoid that area until it heals up (I'm the one who sticks him and I REALLY protect that fistula).
Good luck. Don't let them stick you there.

Now that I'm back in-center after all that time on home hemo, I had to start worrying about where I was getting stuck again. My ex used to do all the sticking for me, and he kept track and laddered my sites evenly every time. In center is a whole other story. After the first couple of weeks, I started pointing out exactly where I want to be stuck each time. "It's time for the 3rd notch up ladder. Aim between here and here." I may be a fussy pain in the arm to them, but they put the needles where I tell them! (Thanks for the loan of the big stick, kit.)
Maybe you could try that, too, rerun? Hope the spot isn't anything serious.
-
CRAP!! :stressed;
They let me come home to get a few things and then they are going to admit me. My fistula looks like the spot is ready to blow and may be a little infected.
-
I will be thinking of you Rerun. :cuddle;
Here's hoping they can shore it up!

That stinks!
:grouphug;
-
Good luck!!

Thinking of you my little Harley Girl.

The nurse forgot to sign-off so I thought I'd try to check with my friends at IHD!
:yahoo;
They stuck an IV in me and then stuck two different spots for blood. They need to see if I have an infection. AND they are giving me antibiotics just in case. I get to sit around here until Wednesday when the surgeon gets his way with me. He is going to put a tube across my chest and start getting my arm ready for another fistula.
I'm such a CHICKEN! Why don't I just quit?? Because I feel fine. At least right now I do. Wednesday after he chops me up I will feel like crap.
I better sign off in case I get caught. Maybe this is permitted???
-
stay away from the thinning area.it can rupture at any time, it needs to be surgically patched.
i'm waiting to get mine done.
-
Sorry to hear of your fistula troubles Rerun, I hope they can get you fixed up and soon. Good luck :thumbup;
-
Why don't I just quit??
Because who would stir your neighbours with dog pee on the grass!! And we need you around here!! :flower;
Hang in there Rerun. I hope it all goes smoothly and the fistula can be repaired. You are in the right place. :cuddle;
I remember my Dads rupturing ..... not a great memory :o

-
Sweetie, Rerun, I wish you lots of luck with the coming surgery and hospital stay!
-
Rerun, I so so wish I had not had to return to this post of yours because I want things to go smoothly for you and it irritates me beyond all belief that the nurses will go for the easy stick with no foresight for the future of the precious fistula.
I'll be thinking of you and hoping that the surgery goes well. :cuddle;
-
Wishing you the best, Rerun. :cuddle;

Hi, I had surgery on Wednesday and had dialysis on Thursday at the hospitla and then got to go home to my sister's house. I'm doing okay. A little sore. The surgeon did both his options. Did the vein to vein thing across my chest and started a fistula in my right arm.
I did get caught on the computer so they would just sign out when they would leave. Darn it!
My sister has dialup so it is really slow. I'll write more later. Thanks everyone.

I'm home but then I go to Nocturnal for the Sunday night run. I think it will go okay.
I'm a little sore, but not bad. Nothing the "Pain Pills" can't take care of.

-
Thank goodness for pain pills! :2thumbsup; Nice to see your post. :cuddle;
-
Dialysis went well due to the fact that they were able to stick my current fistula. That needs to hold out for me.
I was wiped out after I got home. Low BP since I have no idea what my dry weight might be now. Plus I need to shit god knows how much! You have heard that muscle weighs more than fat.... well shit weighs a lot too.
I did perk up about 2 PM and was able to take a shower. Thank God for showers with nice smelling soap.
I'm getting tired of this though. I want to be back to ...... normal .... where I'm just on dialysis and none of this other BS.
Hang in there with me.... Thanks! :flower;
P.S. Pebbles has the shits again! I may try her dog food!
-
Why don't they mix senna in with pain pills and save everyone the aggravation!?
Hope you're feeling better soon Rerun!
xoxoxoxxo :cuddle;

When I went to the hospital I wore my "I Hate Dialysis.Com" T-shirt. It was a nice one with long sleeves. After the surgery I had my sister bring me a button down shirt so I could slip it on.
I had my IHD shirt on a chair so everyone could see it. All the nurses commented on how they LOVED it!
Right when I got back from surgery and my sister left they came in and said they had to move me to a different room.
Someone stole my shirt. It is not in lost and found or the nurses station. Can you believe that!
Oh, well, it will advertise our site. :stressed; :rofl;
-
Sorry about the shirt, Rerun.
How is Pebbles doing with her "problem" and has yours improved?
-
Hi Rerun. I was reading on your situation. I am new to this site but I am really sorry to hear that all of this has occured to you. I hope all is going well. I will keep you in my prayers.

:grouphug;
Hope things improve soon!
