Title: **A Cola without Phosphoric Acid***
Post by: Zach on April 11, 2009, 01:22:49 PM
From the Red Bull web site:

The cola from Red Bull is a unique blend of ingredients, all from 100 % natural sources.
In addition, it is the only cola which contains both the original Kola nut and the Coca leaf.

• no phosphoric acid
• no preservatives
• no artificial colouring
• no artificial flavourings.

Has anyone tried it?

Just be sure to note the difference between the COLA and the ENERGY DRINK.

kitkatz is correct.

This is a new product from Red Bull.

From wikipedia:

A can of Red Bull Cola contains:[1]
 ... Water
 ... Sugar
 ... Carbon dioxide
 ... Natural caramel flavor

... Natural flavors from plant extracts (0.37%): galangal, vanilla, mustard seed, lime, kola nut, cocoa, liquorice, cinnamon, lemon, ginger, coca leaf (absent in some countries[2]), orange, corn mint, pine, cardamom, mace, clove, and lemon juice concentrate

 ... Caffeine from coffee beans.

Red Bull Cola also has more caffeine, at 45 milligrams per 355ml (12-ounce) can, than Coca-Cola or Pepsi-Cola.[3] It also lacks the artificial flavors, colors, and phosphoric acid commonly used in commercial colas.

Darn, can't drink caffeine, might have a good taste to it.

I bet it sure does cost more and you get less that a 12 oz can.

I bought a cola at Whole Foods yesterday (it was their house brand - 365 Value or something)  The ingredients it lists are water, cane sugar, caramel color (from cane sugar), tartaric acid, cola nut flavor, citric acid.

Hubby's not much of a cola drinker, but I allowed him a sip.  :)

Tartaric acid is C4H6O6, so no potassium, phosphorus, or sodium.  I don't see anything else bad there.

Pepsi is coming out with a natural cola.

From their promotion material.

Pepsi Natural

Sparkling water, sugar, natural apple extract (color), carmel color, citric acid, caffeine, acacia gum, tartaric acid, lactic acid, natural flavor, kola nut extract.

Pepsi Natural is packaged in a sleek 12-oz. glass bottle and is available in single-serve and 4-packs initially in the premium and/or natural food aisles of retail outlets in the following ten regional markets; Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and New York.

Saw this topic way down on the page, thought I'd add something.

A while back I bought a four-pack of Dry Cola - that's the brand - which is soda with half the sugar as other sodas, and half the sweetness (no artificial sweeteners). Not only does it taste good and isn't as cloyingly sweet, the cola has no phosphoric acid and, to me, tastes reminiscent of Pepsi. Not as good as Coke, though. ;)
