Title: damn Blue Bell
Post by: twirl on April 09, 2009, 08:37:30 AM
consider yourself lucky if you do not live in Texas
Blue Bell has a new flavor  Southern Blackberry Cobbler
tastes like blueberries and the pieces of crust are crunchy not doughy     blackberries
thank goodness I only bought a pint

I have a question:  If the flavor is Southern Blackberry Cobbler, why does it taste like "blueberries"?

Either way, Twirl, it sounds heavenly!

Yeah, Blue Bell rocks!  But I'm boring when it comes to ice cream.  I like Homemade Vanilla and plain ole Chocolate.

Twirl,
They had that flavor last year when I went searching where to get the banana ice cream you told me about from them. We have blueberry cheesecake ice cream from our local ice cream/dairy. That was sooooo good! ;D :thumbup;

My father gets a pint (I think it's a pint) of vanilla and one of chocolate every week. He eats them both all by himself! I think that's why he has a little fluff around his middle now. We did not have Blue Bell growing up in El Paso, but a few years back they started selling it and I guess he can't resist it.

I love the chocolate. I add a little milk (and Hershey's syrup when I'm really bad) and mix it until it is very smooth. That is my favorite way to eat ice cream. Sadly it wrecks my blood sugar so I try to stay away as much as possible.

I may have to try this cobbler stuff.

I have to remember to get a blackberry milkshake Monday when I come home from docs in the city. Only one area Dairy Queen has the blackberries to use in shakes and sundaes.

Post by: okarol on April 10, 2009, 09:59:54 PM

I though we'd discussed this before - because we don't have Blue Bell in California - found this on Wikipedia Blue Bell holds impressive sales figures, being the third best-selling ice cream in the United States as of 2004 , behind Breyers and Edy's/Dreyer's, despite being sold in only 17 states.[11] The sales area includes southern states between Arizona and Florida and Kansas City, an area that comprises only 20% of the ice cream sales geographic market.[12 - but I remember seeing some in New Mexico, will have to try it next time I go there.
Reading about their flavors, these ones sounded good! Candy Jar is caramel ice cream with peanut butter cups, chocolate chunks, peanut brittle, chunks of caramel and chocolate crisp pieces. Chocolate Extreme is chocolate ice cream with a thick chocolate fudge swirl, chocolate-coated peanut butter cups, chopped pecans, almonds and walnuts.

Two days worth?  That's no big deal.

It is a little expensive in the stores but they have it on sale a lot for under $4.  I have relatives in S. California who have it shipped for special occasions (but to be fair, my cousin manages a large grocery store)... so he probably get it free or something.

it used to be free

less than an hour
unless you watch the movie -- it is short
and you get one little scoop of ice cream in a small cup
unless you want to pay for more
it's all about the money

maybe Blue Bell is coming to California
we have ads where cow are asking to move to California
they sing and dance and audition

Yes we have a Cracker Barrel here, we had dinner there for our IHD meet last August. My luck though, they would not have the Banana ice cream.

Twirl, there lies in the problem. No idea how or where to get dry ice or would be awfully expencive to ship a container heavily filled with ice for next day shippment. Imagine the questions they would ask about what are you shipping and why  ;D :rofl;

You know what Fed Ex will ship dry ice.  They have to pack it though, you take every thing and they do the packing. I can buy dry ice all over the place here, it gets to hot in the summer people buy dry ice to keep in coolers for games and stuff.  Ice melts to fast.  It will probably cost a lot though.  I would call and ask them.

Either size will last less than a day. The chunky monkey = less than an hour. When I was younger and we moved close to a grocery store, I spent my chore money on a 1/2 gallon of ice cream, a brick back then and ate it before m parents got home. Got rid of the evidence, but felt like I would hurl, but want to do it again. Of course this was bad for being a diabetic, but didn't know at the time nor knew anything about adjusting for it. Now days, they encourage me to to eat  ice cream because of the fluid content and having a k/p tx.

Wow that is a lot of ice cream to eat in one sitting. My little brother wants to eat a gallon of ice cream in one sitting.  He dose this weird stuff all the time. Like eating this burrito here that is big enough to feed a family of 4 and I mean a family of 4 who can eat.  Or drinking a gallon of milk at once (didn't go over to well) Haha.  It usually ends with him  :puke; and saying he isn't gonna eat ever again.  Good fun to watch.

Yes, we have those burritos here and I have eaten them in one sitting when I was working. They are really good with melted cheese on top too. ;D

As for the milk, I think there is a biological reason that we would throw up drinking a gallon of milk or at least feel like  :puke; (Nestlie Quick flavored milk it must be there)

Well if you can eat this burrito I will faint.  I have never known anyone who can eat more then my little brother and Matthew and neither one of them ate it.  It was so much food.

I really don't know how you should gain weight if you eat all the ice cream you want and lots of burritos. Hummm we will figure out a way.

I asked if that was where milk came from
that was the end of my milk drinking
 :puke;
I also saw her cut a chicken's head off and it still ran around the yard but
do not touch my fried chicken !
 :urcrazy;
then she gathered eggs and I wanted to know where eggs come from --
that was the end of my eating hard boiled eggs
 :urcrazy;
now where the heck does pizza come from

Before my transplant I could eat a lot and still have trouble gaining weight. When Burger King first started having Whoppers for 99 cents a friend bet me I couldn't eat the 3 I ordered. Told him I could eat more than that and bet him $50 on it. I ended up eating 9 and winning $50 bucks and still went out to a party.

Dialysis curved my eating a little because food was so dull with what I was told I could eat, but when I cheated, I cheated good. :2thumbsup;

Twirl, my mom use to cut the heads off chickens as a kid and now she can't cook them worth a darn. Well anything to be cooked as a matter of fact, but that could be a whole different problem and story. :rofl;

9 whoppers! Haha  You wernt kidding.  Is it a guy thing? My little brother ate 9 duble cheese bugars from Mcy D's (not nearly as good as whoppers though) just to do it one night after one of his football games.  And he toped it off with two large fries and I don't know how many cokes.

And what is with guys eating food for money.  I once new a guy who ate a cicada on a camping trip for 5 bucks.

Must be a guy thing, my son ate a huge grasshopper for 5 bucks during his stint in the Army.  All of his Army buds thought he was WHACKED after that and didn't mess with him.  Oh wait...he is a bit....well..off...he ate a damned grasshopper after all!!

I just ate avocado ice cream --- well, that Italian stuff and it was good but I will never order it again -
very green and I could tell they used real avocado in it
it was not Blue Bell
and they did not serve chips or hot sauce with it

I would try some avocado ice cream. I really like avocados. You just need to go in it with a open mind I think.

Sure that wasn't Pistatio Ice Cream? ???

Avacado Ice Cream :puke; , what's next, pickle ice cream?  :puke;

Pastatio ice cream is the best, but no one makes it anymore.  You can get it at cold stone. I like getting it with coconut and nuts. Yummy!

Like I said Chris you have to go at it with a open mind

Well I don't like avacado in the first place, so that rules that out. ;D

Forgot what brand make pistatio ice cream, will look the next time I am in that aisle.

it was avocado --- I could see some not mixed avocado in it

look like lime tasted like avocado

pickle ice cream -- I would try it unless it was butter and bread pickles --- the sweet ones

Blue Bell makes pistachio with almonds

why not just have a blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean on it?  Heat the cobbler first.

I do not like the little cobble pieces either

I had avacodo - that Italian ice cream stuff and it was good

the key lime pie blue bell would be better without the pieces of crust

oh no crust in ice cream in the best.  I had a blizzard at DQ a few years back around Christmas. It was pumpkin pie and it had big chunks of pumpkin pie and crust it was so good!

I don't like junk in the ice cream.  You get less Ice Cream that way.  You can always eat Vanilla on top of anything.

Just flavor the fricken ice cream with the blackberries and leave the crust out. Not a fan of ice cream on top of a pie, they have to be eaten seperately to enjoy the flavor of each. Prefer ice cream over pie any day though.

I just remembered years ago Albertson's had a spicy, hot flavored ice cream -
can't remember the brand but it was very spicy and I loved it -
then all the Albertson's went out of business
it was vanilla with hot spices
I know MandaMe1986 would have loved it --

I found this:

Hot Pepper Ice Cream
Spice up vanilla ice cream with cayenne pepper in this homemade ice cream recipe.

Recipe courtesy of chef Steve Corry

Ingredients:
12 ounces sugar
3 cups heavy cream
2 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 large vanilla bean, split and seeded

Preparation:

1. Combine all ingredients.

2. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved.

3. Chill overnight.

4. Churn in an ice cream machine.

Yes, they still have churn ice cream makers, Dan,

But we make ice cream here at school in zip lock bags!

We put enough mix in a small bag for one serving, then put that bag into a larger zip lock that has ice and salt. Then wearing gloves, knead the bags until the ice cream is ready. Quickly rinse the salt off the small bag and then eat right out of the bag!

This is a hit!!!!
