Title: Hi I'm new here and I'm Shelly
Post by: shelly on March 12, 2009, 07:15:35 PM
Just started my 6th week of dialysis and it has been quite overwhelming to say the least!  Found out my kidneys were failing in November 2007 and was shocked because I felt fine I thought.  Since then it has been quite a roller coaster with all the info coming at me from all directions.  The 1st thing I did was to qualify for the transplant list which I successfully completed in January of 2008.  Had my 1st fistula surgery in July 2008 which developed a stricture and had to have another fistula surgery done in October 2008.  Thankfully this one works and only had to endure 3 angioplasties to get it up and running.  All the while I continued to work until this January 2009 when my body told me it was time to start dialysis.  I was so tired all the time but thank goodness I didn't get sick as some of the other patients did before they had to begin.  Here I am and I have to say that since starting I'm starting to feel my energy level coming back.  It's tedious to say the least to have to go 3x a week but I always consider what the alternative would be if I had not found out before my kidney completely checked out.  I'm glad I found this website because it gives me a chance to talk to other people who are going through the same things I am.  Thanks for making this site possible. I do in center dialysis and they started the button hole procedure on me.  Any advice?

Welcome Shelly.  It does sound like it has been a roller coaster for you.   But apparently you're on the right track now.  I was diagnosed in 1994 and didn't need a fistula until late 2007.   That's also when I started my testing to get on "the list".   I can't imagine what it's like to find out your kidney's are failing and immediately getting thrown into the water with getting on "the list", getting your fistula and then starting dialysis.  At times I'm sure it was hard to breathe.   :cuddle;

Glad you found us!   :waving;

Welcome Shelly, good to have you aboard. As you know, its a rough ride - keep your chin up & fight the good fight, no matter what happens. That was the advice a good friend of mine gave me. He has since passed away, but those words will stay with me to the end. I share them with you as you asked for advice. Again, welcome aboard  :thumbup;
