Assuming that Satan exists:
Would you be willing to make a deal with the Devil, to restore you to perfect health and give you a normal life span, in exchange for your immortal soul?
I've thought a lot about that, as my health has continued to deteriorate. Right now, I'm sort of iffy about it.
Anyone else willing to make the deal?
-
Absolutely NOT! There is nothing on this earth that competes with Hell. Nothing! A lake of fire and gnashing of teeth. No Thanks!
:Kit n Stik;
-
As flippant answer, having just found out I have to go back to in-center - I'd say yes.
In reality, no. I'm not really religious, but heck, just in case. . . !
-
Hell no!!! :rofl; >:D In all seriousness, no i would definitely not.
-
after my experience at dialysis today -- I'd like to yes "Hell Yes"
but 4 hours three times a week is a lot less time than eternity
-
ESRD is Hell!!!!!
-
I have to say NO as well... And Dan I totally agree ESRD is HELL!
-
I thought I was already in Hell three days a week for eight hours!
How about a deal with God?
-
Absolutely not.
-
Well, let's see now; I don't believe in the devil, I don't believe in hell, and I don't believe in a soul, which is the "traditional" offering to the devil, so where does that leave me? I ain't got nothing to bargain with. :rofl;
-
I don't even understand the question and since I never sign anything I don't understand, I'm out. Actually I'm pretty much in the same boat as Peleroja.
-
How about a deal with God?
Tried the deal with God, Kitkatz, but it didn't work -- or hasn't yet (I guess there's still hope).
I have thought of this exact topic many times. And, too many times, I've thought that I WOULD make such a deal with the Devil himself for my soul (not Marvin's) for Marvin's return to health and a "normal" life again and a long lifespan. So, I guess my answer is, "I'd consider it." Before I make any decision at all, I always weigh all the "pros" and "cons." The exchange for my eternity in damnation would, I think, be worth trading off for Marvin's chance to be healthy again. What I've seen Marvin suffer through for 14 years now has been so overwhelming at times that anything -- anything at all (even my soul) -- would be worth sacrificing to stop it.
But, then, the Devil doesn't always trade fairly. I'm reminded of a short story ("The Devil and Tom Walker"), and it would be just my luck that I'd make the deal, seal my fate in Hell, and the Devil would then come up with some way to wiggle out of his part of the deal (Marvin's health). But, still, it does sound like something I'd consider...and I do believe in Hell, the Devil, and the existance of my soul!
-
Nope...no way...ain't gonna happen. Life is what it is....we deal with it as it comes. If Satan was an easy fella to deal with everyone would be doing it.
-
Wouldn't do it. No thanks.
-
Since the Devil only seems to make deals with talentless goons like Miley Cyrus and Jim Belushi, I'd rather not be included in that club.
Although I do see the Devil every few nights at Dialysis. He makes the lidocaine miss and I sit in burning pain for three hours.
So as far as hell goes, living it every single day.
-
Nope, not me. I have worked hard for my place in Heaven!! I think we have all experienced a little bit of Hell already.
-
I'm not religious but no. Seems to me you couldn't have a "normal life" if you had some kind of soul destroying deal with the devil (as I understand it) so the whole idea doesn't seem to hold water.
In a way this is the same sort of argument as going for an illegal transplant in a 3rd world country.. like seeking a "quick fix" but at what cost?
no thanks. I want to do things the "right" way.
And yes, sometimes enduring dialysis is its own kind of hell... specially when you're cramping and throwing up and STILL have an hour and a half to go on the fracking machine!!!
-
Save me a seat by the fire!
-
This reminds me of the joke where a plumber is sent to hell and the devil gives him some options, but the plumber comes up with options of his own. He makes a deal with the devil and fixes the place up real nice. God calls on the devil stating that there was a mistake and the plumber was sent down in error (after he see's what he's done with the place). Devil say's no mistake here, he's staying here after what he's done with the place.
Think there was a mention of some shady deals or to the like. I'll have to see if I still have the email o the joke.
-
I guess I'm with the majority and would say no as well. With as many people I know that have suffered from different diseases before they passed, I am willing to accept anything that comes my way and deal with it. Since I do believe in heaven and hell, I would take suffering in this finite life than have to suffer worse in hell for eternity.
-
I just posted in your other thread. Now I really am worried. And sadly I don't even think you are joking. I am not usually this outspoken but I don't think a question like this even deserves a response. I believe this thread is totally inappropriate and it should be removed. I don't believe I would be the only one who finds it offensive.
-
Offensive and inappropriate? I think that's a bit harsh, Lucinda. Rightside's not taking pot-shots at anyone's religious beliefs - this was just about being frustrated with the constraints that come with chronic ill health.
-
This is an age old question that people have been asking for centuries. "would you make a deal with the devil to--fill in the blank". This is asked at many discussion groups; whether it is a religious group or not. It helps one think about the situation and if we would change it.
-
No. I'd rather deal with something like kidney disease up front and kinda know what's happening then dealing with the devil and not knowing what he's going to take from me in return.
donna
-
I definitely would say NO DEAL!!!! :clap;
-
Some days when it is all bad, I wonder what kind of deal I could make.
Other days when it is not so bad, I still wonder about the deal I could make.
Good days, I pray for my sanity.

This seems an appropriate thread to add this little story...
Yesterday while I was on the machine one of the sweet PSA's came in and wanted to invite whoever into a syndicate for the big lotto draw here last night ($15 million). So a bunch of us signed on, and I opted in to share with a few of the staff... anyway when she came back with the tickets we all saw it was draw number, wait for it, 666!!!! LMAO!! >:D >:D >:D >:D
We didn't win anything! LOL
that deal sure didn't work out! :Kit n Stik;

What he said.

maybe I made a deal with the devil in another life and dialysis is my hell
only I do not believe in reincarnation >:D

Call us crazy, but Marvin and I looked into this, too.
-
Petey I would never call you (or anyone else) crazy who looked into that sort of thing. It is my personal morals that really mean I could not do something like that because I feel it would be using my comparative wealth to take advantage of someone else's desperation due to poverty - added to that that more often than not the people who get the majority of the money from such procedures are the middlemen and the actual donor can often wind up with very little. Is some money REALLY worth your health? Not to my way of thinking but that's just me. Everyone is different and I'm NOT going to tell someone off for considering it or even doing it. I'd personally hope they wound up OK and medical conditions/treatment was good and all that. I don't think it's right to make a judgement call on others in this sort of situation because everyone's different.. and who knows maybe if I have to wait another 5 or 10 years I might get desperate enough to consider it myself.
btw paddbear is buying dinner for everyone now that we know her CC code!!! :clap; :clap; :clap; :beer1;
-
Well, I am certainly glad to see so many no answers! No, I would not make any sort of deal with the devil - he is only out to destroy us anyway. I choose to live my life for God and trust that He loves us so much!

What if you brought an equally qulified lawyer for the fine print and alter anything of the deal? :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Saw this on a show where the characters start reading the contract in front of the devil since their lawyer wasn't with and started making changes in the fine print. Devil ends up walking away saying "You guy's are good" :rofl; :rofl;
