Title: I need some information to make some decisions
Post by: Auntie V on February 11, 2009, 01:42:30 PM
I hope someone is on that can answere a couple questions.

Mom come home from the hospital yesterday. Has been sick all day today. We have dialysis tomorrow. What happens if we can not make it?

I am thinking that we will probably be going to rehab to build up her strength but am not sure how that works with dialysis. has anyone been there? Done that?

Alot depends upon what you mean by 'sick'.  If she is sick in bed, but not running to the bathroom constantly, she should probably still go for her treatment.  If she is throwing up or having to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, you should probably consult her doctor for their advice.  At the very least, you should call the clinic and talk to the nurse and explain the entire situation.

Good luck to you and your mom.  I hope she is feeling better soon.

I agree with cherpep.  If she is just laying around then she can lay around in a dialysis chair.  She can't be jumping up going to the bathroom however, and try to do dialysis.  She can miss a session but watch her fluid intake if that is an issue and watch her potassium intake.  Call the clinic and tell them the situation.

if she's so sick she can't make clinic the doctor needs to know and he will probably have her readmitted and do dialysis in the hospital

I called the center and they suggested I give her one more dose of the nausea meds to see if they help. If they don't then the want me to take her back to the hospital by way of the ER and paramedics.

Jan 6 to Feb 4 stay #1, Feb 7 to Feb 10 Stay #2 I do not think I will able to do this again. I hate dialysis!!!!!

Definitely important to let the clinic know what is going on, and the neph. At the very least you want to be sure that mom is not marked as being non complaint at all for missing a session because of sickness.. At least if she's admitted they can do dialysis there and hopefully get looked after. I hope she feels better soon!

Mom is on her way back to the hospital. I really hate dialysis!

I feel like I have really failed as her caregiver.

Often the caregiver is trapped in the cycle with the patient.  It is not your fault she is so sick. Do what you can for her and put your faith in God. Ask questions of her doctors and be a pain. Find out everything you can.  :grouphug;

Dont forget that it is not your fault or anyone else for your mother's conditions. :( :(

Your not the only one that have experience the problems of dialysis, and as you do, we all also hate dialysis.

Hope thing will get better for you soon. :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup;
