Title: What is going on here ?
Post by: Brightsky69 on February 10, 2009, 05:17:07 AM
Good Morning Everyone,

I just started PD on the cycler machine 3 days ago. I have one question…..last night I kept getting a “low drain volume” alarm. I could feel a pulling but not a lot was coming out. I figured I was empty so I bypassed this alarm.
I wonder what is going on. My initial drain volumes have been 1360, 1211, 1400 but last night all I got was 490. What could be going on here? Should I use a stronger bag? Could I have a blockage?  ???

I noticed the same thing on my initial drain, so I began sitting up next to the machine (I start at 8:30 pm so I can be off by 7 am) and after that, no low drain volume alarms.  I've never gotten a low drain alarm during the night, just on that first one.

I'm surprised nobody else has run into that issue & I wish I could help, but definitely ask your PD nurse.  She should know and be able to help you out   :)

Turns out I was absorbing some of the fluid. That is why I wasn't getting out what was going in. My dwell time was too long.
