I am aware of inquiring glances at my arm when I am at the gym. At first I thought I'd cover my arm up but instead I decided to put messages on my back since they are staring anyway (or at least it feels like they are :()
Here is a picture of three of my shirts so far.... :yahoo;

i love it! good for you. people will never learn if they don't ask questions. unfortunately they think asking is rude but somehow just staring isn't. i have a severely handicapped child and once in the grocery store a mother told her small son it was rude to ask questions because they pointed out that kevin was different. WRONG! i sat down on the floor at the child's level and told him all about kevin. the woman was dumbfounded. hopefully she learned something too. another time a woman chased me out of the store to ask me questions because i had actually talked to her handicapped son. that had never happened before, the child was 8. people usually looked uncomfortably in the other direction. where did you get your shirts made, we probably could all use one.

You go, Girl!!
Those shirts are just awesome, I give you
so much credit for wearing them.
I too think people can be so rude sometimes,
GMa - or is it they are just plain damn stupid? :stressed;

What a great idea - well done swramsay :2thumbsup;

Thank you. I remember someone saying that a woman pulled her son away whispering that she (the dialyisis patient) must be a junkie! Ha! A gym junkie. Hey - that would be a good one for a t-shirt too! "Gym Junkie on Dialysis" :clap;
I just made them myself. So if you have any good ideas, I'm all ears!
-
:2thumbsup;
Excellent. Good for you.
Swarmsay has anyone talked to you about it since making the shirts?
-
Just made them. I'm on the way out the door right this minute to go to the gym before dialysis.
I'll let you know if anyone talks to me about it............ :boxing;
-
OMG!! I love them! It's too bad I dropped out of school recently. I would have still had access to the screen printing room and could have screen printed up a bunch of shirts! Darn it!

How Funny!
:yahoo;

i reckon you should have a t-shirt that says " KEEPS ME ALIVE "
with an arrow pointing to your fistula
-
Those are great!
-
I think they are AWESOME too!!!! U GO GIRL!!!!

They're great and what a wonderful way to educate the uneducated.
You've all seen the "Ask me about my Grandson/Granddaughter, etc." t-shirts. Why don't you make one that just simply says "Don't stare. Ask me about my arm". Maybe someone will take you up on it and you can truly educate them.
Good Job! :clap; :clap;
-
good for you and I think it's great that people seeing your shirts will know that even though someone is on dialysis, they can still live active lives & do "normal"
things like go to the gym
-
Hopefully we can come up with more ideas for you.

has anyone said anything to you about the shirts, your arm or dialysis???????????
-
No one has specifically said anything about my shirt. One day I got on the ellyptical between 2 women and one of them introduced me to the other by saying "This is Wendy and she has no kidneys!" Of course there was a little conversation following about that and dialysis and people they know/knew on dialysis etc. It feels a lot better to be up front about the whole thing than to wonder what people are thinking. I'm always happy to talk about any aspect of my journey...well almost.
I also like knowing that for most people, it is an awakening when they see an active, seemingly normal person working out at the gym who has no kidneys and is on dialysis. That's got to be inspiring to some. Geez....it is to me and I'm the one on dialysis! :)

Hi Swramray,
Nice sayin' on a shirt. I really think the word dialsys is being handicaped from doing anything else such as lifting wieghts with a fisula or any strin on on a fisula will reduce the works of dialsys. How 'bout sayin' something encouraging like "it's driving rusted nails in my arm which makes me arm of steal." or "It's by lifting needles in my arm." Mybe, by this people will come and ask instead of walk away.
