Title: Fresh Frozen Plasma, Graft Clotting
Post by: cris on January 26, 2009, 08:28:01 PM
Hi Everyone,
Nanay is at the National Kidney Institute right now, waiting for the Vascular surgeon to do his thing on her graft. Nanay has been feeling great since the holiday season BUT her PTT, the prothrombotin time of blood clotting had been high. Her Neph in the province did her a fresh frozen plasma transfusion during her sessions, it was 4 bags, two for each spaced session. I resented that, since Nanay's cardiologist has emphatically stressed to us before that, Nanay should be on blood thinners cause of her enlarged heart and narrowing arterial veins, due to old age. Nanay had been out of Plavix, blood thinner for sometime now. The neph put her on vita K because of the high PTT, however, even with vita K her PTT did not improve, so the plasma transfusion. The neph said that she was worried for an internal hemorrhage. Right after all the plasma transfusion, Nanay's graft clotted, she wasn't able to have her dialysis last Monday. I am sure this has something to do with the Plasma thing. The neph should have administered the transfusion slowly on small amounts and watched for reactions, but she didn't. When I surfed for the Plasma, sure enough, clotting is one of the adverse reaction, and this transfusion is not so much effective for D patients, it has only a very minimum effect. So true, cause Nanay's PTT only improved a bit. Now, her scheduled surgery for the graft at 6:00a.m. was postponed since she is having a very slow heartbeat. Her graft is only 1 yr and 4 mos. old. She's waiting for the cardiologist clearance. She is getting restless because of all the happenings.
It is hard for me being away and monitoring just by overseas call. I have my only sister with her who has to take off from work, and to top it all, these will again cost us a fortune, because of the Neph's, should I call it not well informative practice. I pray that things go well with Nanay, am so worried.
I am writing this to let you be aware of this kind of situation.
love,
cris

I am praying for you and your family.  I pray that Nanay starts feeling better and the Drs figure out what is going on.

Thank you so much for all the cares and love.
The graft operation is moved today/Wednesday at 1:30p.m. after Nanay was cleared from all the test. They tried to have her on dialysis last night but the graft is really the problem. Up to now, she has not had a dialysis, am worried about the toxin build-up. The vascular surgeon said, she can use the graft right after the operation.
love,
cris
