I was typing the word 'dialysis' (which my fingers seem to programmed to type these days!), and got to wondering where the word came from. So I went to Dictionary.com and looked it up. Of course it has nothing to do with a dial!
[Greek dialusis, separating, dissolution, from dialūein, to break up, dissolve : dia-, apart; see dia- + lūein, to loosen; see leu- in Indo-European roots.]
So, there you are, word fanatics like myself! It is to do with the separation of large molecules from smaller molecules and ions (i.e. fluid from blood)

Good to know. I never thought of reading the real definition. Maybe it will help when explaining it to others. :2thumbsup;

Hey there Bajanne, you fellow word geek. The first thing I did when I was told many years ago that I had to start D was go home and look up the word and where it came from. I love etymology and reading dictionaries too. :thumbup;

The Stacy Definition of the Word Dialysis:
"A procedure that removes blood from your body, runs it through a soul crushing machine to remove waste and fluid buildup, and return it with mocking indignation. Side effects include grossing out the female population, inability to rise from one's bed, and the talent to vomit up most lunches at a moment's notice. Not recommended for anyone ever."
Thank you and good night.

Agreed. Please add...makes you so tired you can't think straight most of the time, allows you to live in a fog.
