We know the common signs of kidney failure, like raised blood-pressure, fluid retention, hematuria, proteinuria, tiredness etc. but does anyone know what the less common signs are? Just me being curious again.

My mouth went really weird...I couldn't really explain it. The skin started to "slough" off, and I had almost like a burning sensation inside my mouth all the time...it was really really weird. But as soon as I started dialysis it went away. I was also extremely cold (low hemoglobin). Even with two sweatshirts and a jacket on, inside a heated room, I was still cold.

i could no longer tolerate eating a whole steak, gave me potty problems. Also, I sometimes had a metallic taste to any food. I would keep sending food back to the kitchen at restaurants saying my food had gone bad or something, embarrassing when no one else could taste the problem.

I had what Allan (my partner)_ called Chemical Breath LOL, probably all the Toxins building up in my body.

I think this is pretty common, but I gradually lost my appetite and felt nauseous. Right before my kidneys failed I was throwing up after I hate.11

I was puking all the time and lethargic. I don't remember a lot during that time. I was just a kid (0 - 16)..

Hi Python,
although I didn`t know it at the time, mine started with torn ligaments in both my feet. Obviously my bone wasn`t getting repaired and the pain in my feet got so bad I went to see my Doc. He put me on Naproxyn pain killers. Boy, was that a wrong move. After 3 days I just couldn`t breath or move around so I stopped taking them. A second Doc eventually took a blood sample and here I am. The hospital reckons the Naproxyn just finished what little kidney function I did have left and I am allergic to anti - inflammatories! My feet still aren`t better yet either.

Every time I take an anti-inflammatory such as Ibropofen I end up with a sore stomach and sicky feeling. I was told this week to take Ibropofen for my broken toe and declined. Rather put up with a bit of discomfort from my toe than feeling yuk for a couple of days with an upset tummy.

Umm, from what I gathered, just about anyone could get symptoms of an upset stomach from taking Ibuprofen. Some people can handle higher doses then others. And there are some people out there that just can't take Ibuprofen at all.
I can take one, maybe two 200mg tablets and still feel okay but one 800mg tablet will make me very sick to the stomach.

My neph told me never to take ibuprofen, because it is filtered through the kidneys and, I didn't to give them the added stress

My Neph told me never to take Ibropofen as well when I had my transplant .. I think the reason was because it doesn't work well with my meds or my meds would be effected by it. Not sure.

I was told not to take anything other than Tylenol.. :-\
