Wed - Sat does seem like a long time between sessions to me.  I know someone will be able to give you answers!  Usually, it's only two days max, right?  Mon, Wed, Frid (off Sat & Sun in a row).  ???

Is that going to be a permanent schedule or is this because your Dad has just started and they're trying to get him adjusted slowly?  He's only had a total of 3 treatments, right?

When I first started dialysis, I dialyzed two days in a row like that as well in the hospital. They said it was just to get your body used to dialysis. After that I followed a regular schedule.

Roxanne,  depending on what his labs and fluid look like.  Some new patients are dialyzed every day until improved.  Once he is a bit more stable, he will be on an every other day schedule, unless he is a candidate for home treatment.  That would be as much as 6 days a week.

Roxanne,
most importantly, know his labs, understand how to read the lab results. have you gone to kidneyschool.com? you will learn a lot from that site.
Your Dad begins to itch, another effect of dialysis, that's why he's rubbing his skin so much. This can be prevented base on balancing his lab results.
have you asked his neph why is your Dad on only blood cleaning and not taking off any fluids? does your dad still pee normal? Fluid retention is a killer, it will damage everything inside his body, it's toxins build-up.

Your Dad is lucky to have you, your parents must have been proud of you.

love,
cris

Go get em! :mysty:
They should know better, but who says nurses have common sense, or in that matter some people. I agree with cris, the more you know, the better.

Hope you have a good day when you go to te hospital and  :Kit n Stik; some sense into them.

When you pull out the nurses hair....... you can sell them a wig!  Win Win situation!  (JK)

When I first started dialysis I was on everyday for the first 5 days.

Hi, Roxanne
You said your Dad is in St Barnabus in Livingston?

We are from Jersey also and yes that is supposed to
be one of our best hospitals (pretty scarey, isn't it?)
As a matter of fact my hubby is registered there for the
trans. list -

When Les first had to go on D. they dialized him every day
for I think 5 days in a row - it was very, very scary.

I will pray your Dad feels better very soon.

As far as the nurses go, I would give them hell!  When it
comes to the care of a loved one, sometimes you have to
be a real bitch to get any results.  Try to stay on  top of
everything they are doing to Dad - I know it can be over-
whelming, but you can never be too careful.

I often wish  that all the darn Drs. would b e on  the same
page, seems like each one will tell ya something different.
Pulling for you and yours,

Anne and Les from Jersey
