At dialysis on Friday, they finally told me what will happen concerning the operation on my graft ( to reroute the section which has a little aneurysm). I am to have blood works on Monday. I will enter the hospital from Tuesday evening and the operation will be on Wednesday. I do covet your caring thoughts and prayers. This will be a first for this surgeon, as the vascular surgeon only comes here monthly and he said that he does not want me to wait until he returns. He assures me that she has been working with him for two years and he is confident that she can do it.
The way I have come to look at it is that someone has to be her first!!
I know without a doubt that my IHD family will be with me all the way. :grouphug;

Sending prayers on Wednesday just to let you know I'm thinking about you, but you won't need them because your going to do just fine.
Right now the doctor is probably going over & over the procedure in their mind. That's a good thing.

Our Bajanne and Epoman's Aurora, tons of prayers for you and your doctor. Don't worry, angels will be watching your doctor to do it right. Our love will see you thru. :grouphug;

Bajanne, I will be thinking of you and praying for you come surgery day. We all will :grouphug;
Make the dr. give you some good drugs to help you sleep the night before because you know no one sleeps well in the hospital. I wonder if that has anything to do with staff coming in to take your vital signs at all hours of the night?!! :sarcasm;
Oh and BTW, :secret; you CAN ask them not to take vitals during the night if you are stable and it isn't medically necessary.
-
:cuddle; My prayers are with you for a quick procedure and even quicker recovery.
-
My caring thoughts and prayers are always with you, but more so over the next few days :cuddle;
-
Thinking of you, bajanne, and sending hugs. :cuddle; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take it easy when you're done and let the healing do its thing.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle;

Everything will go just right Aurora. May Gods hands be upon the surgeons hands. Love ya Aurora. :-*

Thanks, guys! SURPRISE!!!!!!! Because there will be no space in the theatre on Wednesday, at dialysis today I was told I would have to come right back to the hospital and be admitted to have the operation on Tuesday!
Two good things - the friend who drove me back is Jamaican, and when I told him the surgeon is Jamaican and told him her name, he said that she is very good. that encouraged me.
Secondly - this room is COLD!!!! :yahoo;
-
How long will you be there? I hope they warm you up!
Good luck and know we are all thinking of you! :cuddle;
-
Thinking of you today, Tuesday, Bajanne. I hope your Jamaican doc does the best job ever. :cuddle;

My dear IHD family,
Thanks you so much for all your wonderfully encouraging expressions. it all went well. Just I think I was not given enough local anasthetic, since I kept feeling some pain as they were operating.
My other problem - hunger!!!!!!!! I had supper in the hospital at about 6 p.m. on Monday. They were preparing me for the theatre from about 9 Tuesday morning, but I didn't get into the theatre until 4p.m (there were some emergencies). My daughter told me that I got back to my room at 8.15 (they called her from the hospital) and said that I chatted with her about 9, but I have no recollection whatever about that.
For the first time, I saw what the tubing for thegraft looks like. I asked the surgeon in the theatre and she showed me.
My arm is now quite swollen and there is only a very short area that they can use to put in the two needles for dialysis. I am on my Wed dialysis as I type this.
I will be able to go home after dialysis.
Kitkatz, that is good advice about the arm. they didn't tell me anything about that on the surgical ward - one of our dialysis nurses just told me that is what I needto do to bring down the swelling.
Thanks again. Keep my in your caring thoughts for total recovery.
-
:grouphug; bajanne. I was so relieved to see your post. Continued thoughts and prayers are with you. :cuddle;
-
so glad to hear that all went well.
-
:2thumbsup;
-
Fantastic news ! Heal quick! :cuddle;
-
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Glad it went well. :cuddle;
-
:clap; I hope you heal quickly - take care!
-
Keep that arm up!!! While you're there, keep the chin up too. Hope you heal fast!
-
Great to hear that you are on the mend. Hopefully the swelling will resolve soon, and the aneurysm is now in the distant past.
-
I took a pillow everywhere with me for a week to keep the arm up after graft surgery. Looked kind of funny in a restaurant with a pillow under my arm, but it kept the swelling down. I hope you feel good soon !
-
Thinking of you Bajanne, yep and i agree with kitkatz ( well who wouldn't i dont want that stick ! ) the pillow is great help take one with you as otherwise kitkatz may come with that stick of hers !!!
Tamara xxxx oooo

Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending love to you :cuddle;
-
Thanking of you..yes, take care of that arm.

Bajanne, I hope you are recovering nicely this evening. The swelling from the surgery can get quite bad. Mine was in the right thigh, but my entire leg swelled up and bruised (Hey kitkatz, did you beat me with that stik of yours during my surgery?!). It took about 10 days for mine to go away, but recovery on the lower appendages (the legs) is slower because they are dependent. Kitkatz has the right idea when she says to prop it up. You will be surprised how much it truly does help. I thought at first that I might be taking it too easy after my surgery, but I noticed better improvement on the days I kept my leg elevated. Wishing you a speedy recovery <333 :2thumbsup;
-
:cuddle; hope you heal quickly! :guitar:
-
Hi Bajanne,
Glad all went well. Now for rest and recovery. Take care of that arm, as you will need it to type on the computer and keep in touch with all of us. :)
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, :grouphug;

Against my daughter's wishes I am back at work, today Thursday. Cruise ship dock until 3 p.m then French class at college 4 pm and then a spanish class with adults 6.30 to 7.30. Everything has gone quite well. I slept with a pillow under my arm and it has gone down slightly.
I had a little crisis this morning after about an hour at work. But it was probably due to the low blood sugar problem I have been having recently. a guy here brought my a bottle of juice and soon I felt much better. It is now 2.38 p.m. I will let you know if I made it until 7.30!!!
-
WHAT?! Are you saying that you went back to work the day after surgery on your graft? Oh you have got to be careful!! You need to keep that arm elevated, or it's not gonna heal very quickly. You can't have much real estate to work with on the graft for poking, and you're gonna need it to heal quickly so that you can use more of it.
I wish you well, but I don't think going back to work so quickly was such a wise decision. I hope you take it as easy as possible while you are there.
-
Wow, glad you were able to go back to work. Hope you make it till quiting time, good luck :thumbup;
-
I hope/wish you well Aurora but please be careful. :grouphug;
-
I made it through everything well. I got home in one piece and conducted both of my classes with no problems whatsoever.
However, I am finding it hard to go to sleep. that is why I am on the computer at 11.00p.m. I was in bed from 8p.m. but can't sleep. I will try again soon.
-
This is where you should just dim the lights, sit back, close your eyes and relax...that might help you get sleepy........hope so.
Ann
-
Glad it's all over and you are feeling as well as you are. However, do be careful and try
to get as much rest as can. You don't have to sleep to rest your body, but hope your sleep
problem will get better soon, too.
Love, Mimi

I'm not trying to lecture, but everyone here is concerned for a reason. That graft is your lifeline now and so you need to take extra special care of it. I don't know what your circumstances are, and you may feel you can't take the time off, but give it at least a few days to rest before getting back into the swing of things. Everybody (every body part) needs rest to keep on keepin' on. Ya know? Not trying to be critical or bossy, just want to see you have a good outcome with as few obstacles as possible. I hope you are sound asleep by now - ZZZzzzzzzzzz
-
Please, please, please take care of yourself Bajanne. Don't overdo it, please! :cuddle;
-
Everything is doing fine. I went back to see the doctor Tuesday, and she was very pleased with the results. there is still a bit of swelling, but she says that will soon go down.
One good thing, I had no pain after the actual day of the operation. When I passed by the surgical ward a day or two ago, there was a prescription there for me for pain!!! Lucily I hadn't needed it.
The doctor says that the new section can be used after 3 weeks. She listened to it and it was buzzing correctly. She is very pleased with her work, and I am too!
Thanks for all your caring thoughts and expressions. I love my IHD family!! :grouphug;
-
Good news! Seriously, I was worried about you going back to work so soon. I am very relieved, and - I must say - inspired. You're pretty tough!
-
Glad things went so well. :grouphug;
-
# I love my IHD family!! :grouphug;
And we all llove you :grouphug;
-
I am glad you didn't suffer too much - great to hear the surgery has worked! :2thumbsup;
-
great news :cuddle;
-
Our supervisor in the dialysis unit took my bandages off when she was hooking me up. she listened and it is humming nicely. i am not looking forward to them using the new section - new sections hurt like the dickens and I gave up lidocaine a long time ago.
They have been using a very small section of my graft for dialysis and at one point were using the smaller needles.
-
BE brave sweetie. It will hurt for awhile until your skin and brain get used to the new area. The first time someone hit the new area on the graft I cried. I know how you feel. :flower; :flower;
-
The surgeon said they could start using the new area after 3 weeks. The supervisor asked me yesterday if the three weeks were'nt up as yet. It will be up tomorrow, but will I be telling.........?
Not going to say a mumblin' word................
-
Well, my supervisor used the new area yesterday at dialysis. Thankfully she went back to a pink needle - don't even remember when I had that before. That section was JAMMING!!! Since they have been using the venous section for both needles, it has been a long time since I saw the blood pulsating like that!
I saw the doctor a few days ago and she was justly very pleased at how everything turned out.
Hopefully, it will be a while before I need to have anything done with my graft again.
-
Thats great news bajanne, I hope and pray all continues to go well :thumbup;

:cuddle; I am happy to hear that it went well Bajanne :cuddle;
