Are any of the ladies here on the pill and on HD? The only reason I ask is because Im considering going back on it. I havent been on it since before I started PD. I think it did make me moody, so I want to find out if there is one that has less mood side effects if there is such thing!

aMbEr79,
I have not been on the pill sinceFeb. 1975. The reason my kidney disease got discovered was from using the pill.
The doctor never let me use it since. If I never went on it I would not have found out about my PKD til years
later. Just thought you may want to know what happened to me. Don't know how it is now in 2006.
-
I dont quite understand. Are you saying the pill caused your kidney disease? I would say its different now, but not without side effects. I have a reason why I want to go on it but not going into detail here :)
-
i think the best thing to do is ask your doctor :)
-
Im going to get a referal for a gyno, but I thought I would ask here to see if anyone had had any bad experiences or what not with taking it on HD.
-
I should ask mine as well but am having a hard time getting an appt for my gyno through my family doc as it seems the family doc wants to make the money instead of referring me to my usual gyno... ::)

About 10 years ago, my nephrologist told me to never take contraceptive medication... he said that something in it conflicted with the antirejection medication I was taking... I'm not sure about being on dialysis, though... and again, this was 10 years ago... things could have changed since then... might be a good thing to ask your nephologist, though...

There have been studies which show that estrogen, and possibly other hormones, can accelerate the growth and/or multiplication of PKD cysts, especially in the liver. Many women w/ PKD who get pregnant experience a period of rapid progression.
-
Oh ok, well I dont have PKD. I guess your chances of developing cancer may go up, considering both the pill and rejection meds carry a risk

I'm on a three year implant of contraception called implanon. Its impanted into your arm with a needle ( yes another needle, add them to the collection we deal with) last for three years so you don't need to worry about taking a pill everyday.
-
Ive heard about the implant but have heard it can have bad side effects like depression and what not. Ive already got depression and anxiety so I wont be getting the implant thing.

:bump;
I wanted to know is there anyone else on Hemo-dialysis on The pill and if so which one?
Thanks.
Amanda.

Thanks. :thumbup;
I've been told a lot of different things from different health care specialists, u don't know who's advice to follow.

Have you looked into Mirena? It's a much lower dose of hormones than the pill, and is safe for diabetics to use, unlike any form of the pill. My neph approved it for me - he said it shouldn't interfere with any of the meds I'm on for dialysis. My endocrinologist said the same thing about the blood pressure and diabetes drugs, too. Gotta love that no-period side effect, too!
-
I've never heard of that...not to sure if we even have it here. I will bring it up to my doc. Thanks.

My neph told me to use a barrier method rather than a pill for birth control. It has less side effects. I have been using a diapharam with notproblems. One less pill to take!
