Here are the most recent "Facts About Transplantation" with updated waiting list numbers as of October 3, 2008. It includes the following data on the number of patients waiting on 10/3/2008.
* 77,272 patients waiting for a kidney transplant.
* 16,079 patients waiting for a liver transplant.
* 1,595 patients waiting for a pancreas transplant.
* 180 patients waiting for a pancreas islet cell.
* 2,263 patients waiting for a kidney-pancreas transplant.
* 235 patients waiting for an intestine transplant.
* 2,689 patients waiting for a heart transplant.
* 97 patients waiting for a heart-lung transplant.
* 2,129 patients waiting for a lung transplant.
* 100,008 TOTAL PATIENTS*
Please note that as of October 3rd, there were slightly more than 100,000 patients waiting for transplant. Currently (this morning), the number is below that figure but I expect that the list will again reach and then stay over that mark later this week or next. .
