they have enough problems
we are having a second birthday party for Trasie and it is a swimming party in our backyard on Saturday
she can swim under water and has never had a lesson
and no her mom has never "known" Phelps
she jumps right in and goes under water and swims
my husband is grilling
and we are boarding Yogi
people want to go down the slide without being rescued
and women go into early labor during hurricanes and Stasie still has a month or so left
so
Ike go on a hike

today they were complaining b/c patients from other cities were calling to see about getting treatments

last hurricane I had to go on Sunday and nothing happened with the weather
so people get relaxed

twirl, please be safe. Len called his sister in Corpus Christi this morning and told her to get OUT. Her husband passed away a few years ago and she had a stoke last year. Her son works on the oil rigs and has already been flown back so he told Brenda to pack up what she wanted and they are heading northwest. I'll be thinking about you.  :cuddle;

Twirl,

It is Wednesday afternoon. Get out now!!! This thing is projected to get to category 4 (Friday afternoon) before hitting (Saturday morning), still holding category 2 Saturday afternoon over Conroe! Don't take any chances, everything in your house can be replaced, not you or your family.

Like you Texans, we are used to this waiting and watching. If we were watching this one from where you live, we would be leaving (and we are not quick to leave).

Twirl, as one who's ridden out quite a few hurricanes (near NC coast), I know where you are right now.  I also know what it feels like to not want to evacuate.  I'm going to be thinking about you (and worrying about you) until this passes.  I'm praying, too.

Okay  -- let's go over your list together........

generator and heavy-duty extension cords
bottled water
grill (for cooking if power goes out)
hand sanitizer (hurricanes are dirty, and this comes in handy)
canned food (that can be eaten cold or heated on grill)
radio or battery-powered, small television
battery-powered, small fan
cars full of gas
paper towels
"snack" food
two weeks of meds (put in Ziploc bag so doesn't get wet)
copy of your most recent flow sheet from clinic (just in case -- Ziploc bag again)
batteries, batteries, batteries
flashlights
fat candles (that burn for a long time and aren't easily knocked over)
matches (in Ziploc bag)
reading materials, sewing stuff, anything to do that doesn't require electricity
non-perishable foods (ones that are on your renal diet, too)
car charger for cell phone
check with your center for a copy of emergency diet if you have to go extra days without D
big cooler (for ice if you can get it later)
list of all emergency telephone numbers (put in Ziploc bag) -- neph on call, clinic, closest hospital, local EMT/Rescue Squad, etc.

Marvin's advice ---  Watch your fluid intake very, very carefully in case you have to go extra days without D -- get some hard candy to suck on (lemon drops are his favorite) to help quench your thirst.

Keep us posted, dear.

Marsha (petey)

Twirl, we'll be keeping all of Texas in our prayers.   My family teases me about how I prepare for Hurricanes, but I feel better when everything is ready.  Don't forget to stock up on pet food!   We've gone 5 days without power and if wasn't fun.   I just wanted a hot shower!     Take care.  And I hope the baby waits to come until after the storm!  My DIL is a labor and delivery nurse and if she is on duty, she can't leave the hospital during a hurricane.  It might be the safest place to be---generators, food, doctors, medicine, etc.  We'll be watching and waiting to hear how you are.

Onlookers pose for pictures as waves generated by Hurricane Ike crash against the sea wall in Galveston, Texas. The main body of the storm, now rated as Category2 with winds above 100 mph, was expected to hit Galveston late today.
