I have 16 hats, all the same style!

« on: August 26, 2008, 11:59:08 AM »

I am so sick and tired of thieves!  Every week I go to the time and trouble to break down my Baxter boxes and put them in the recycle bin for pickup.  Today I just happened to be sitting here when the truck came by and picked up the recycle bin.  I was totally shocked as I watched it empty into the truck, and NO BAXTER BOXES!!!!!  Some SOB is out there getting rich off my Baxter boxes!  Worse yet, they have my name and address on them!

They steal the copper out of our freeway lighting systems (hope they never go under my house and discover my copper plumbing).  My friend next door lived without air conditioning at work for a while, because when it "went out," they discovered that all the copper piping on the roof had been stolen!  They have even been stealing manhole covers.  The latest unbelievable theft is fire hydrants.  FIRE HYDRANTS!!!  Do you have any idea how much time and trouble it takes to remove a fire hydrant, let alone the weight?

From now on I ain't putting my recycle bin out until all those thieves have passed me by!

I agree whole-heartedly!  My husband and I own a security business (we do security camera installations and remote monitoring).  The majority of our clients are car lots.  We had a guy steal a tailgate the other night.  That apparently is one of the "new things" to steal here in San Antonio.  One guy just slid it off, loaded it in his SUV and left.  It took all of about 2 minutes.  We didn't even have time to get the police to answer the phone!  Copper is also big.   It's ridiculous!

And getting the Police involved is just as bad!!!   We noticed two suspicious vehicles parked in the back of one of the businesses we monitor the other night.  My husband called the non-emergency police line and asked for a police officer to go check it out.  We waited and waited.  He finally checked the cameras in the front of the building and sure enough the police officer was in the front parking lot.  He called the police line back and asked the dispatcher to contact that officer and tell him to go to the back of the building.  She agreed.  We waited and waited and he never even got out of his car, much less drive to the back.  He finally started to move his vehicle and we thought "Finally, he's going to the back".  But nooooooooooooo.  ANOTHER cop had pulled up and the first cop had pulled his vehicle up next to the 2nd cop so they could "talk" for half an hour!  My husband called the police line back for the 3rd time and told him what was going on and the dispatcher said "How do you know they are just talking".  He was so pissed!!  He told them he was watching them on remote cameras!  He asked again for them to go to the back because at that time the "suspicious" vehicles had their lights on and were about to leave.  The cops NEVER went to the back, the "suspicious" vehicles left and nothing happened.  Thankfully, the  people in the "suspicious" vehicles didn't do any damage or theft.  We had it all on video if they had, as well as the stupid, lazy police officers!

I just want to ask the person that was kind enough to throw the fast food wrappers and napkins in my yard, please give me your address. I have some pizza boxes I want to throw in yours.  :sarcasm;

I live 1/4 mile down a gravel lane in the country and a couple of years ago someone stole a copper yard ornament from the end of my driveway.  Kids on a Saturday night, I suspect.  But, still, it was a Christmas present from my husband so I was very sad...

For Three Months, My Newspaper, which is Home Delivered, went Missing. We live in an Apt. Complex and it is put right outside our Patio Door. Another Neighbor in the same Building, finally told me that He had seen my Next Door Neighbor, on my Patio, one Morning with my Newspaper in hand. Since I had not seen her do it Myself, I went to her and said, " Someone had been Stealing, my Newspaper and they are coming right on my Patio to do it, if I see them I am calling the Police as I don't know if this Person could be trying to break in " She said, she would watch for them. Stealing stopped.  Last Sunday, my Husband was up at Seven A.M. and saw my Next Door Neighbor, Walk by our Apt. with a rolled up Sunday Paper in Plastic, under Her Arm. Our Apt. does not sell this Paper and She does not Drive! She moved on to someone else!

And Baxter boxes are nice and heavy, so I guess they fetch a pretty penny!

Down here Copper is big business. A lot of wiring on our metropolitan network is copper, and thieves steal it from time to time disrupting train lines for hours while it is repaired.

The other trouble is a big rise in drive off petrol (gas) thieves....

sad, and aggrevating.

Wish I had known about this when I was doing PD and had seven Fresenius boxes each week!

Several months ago we had traffic reports that one of the most travelled two-lane roads in the area was missing all the manhole covers for about a ten mile stretch of road. Thankfully I don't travel that road, but traffic was a nightmare that day!

we have had trouble with stand pipes here in denver. stand pipes are the pipes on the side of buildings that the fire department hooks to. they have copper fittings and there have been several buildings downtown where the fittings have been removed. very dangerous, i wouldn't be very happy if my office building was on fire and the fire department couldn't hook up. expensive as well, several thousand dollars to repair.
