I live in Indianapolis, right in the centre of the state. I have some friends down in the southern part, and I visit them once every one or two months. Since I got my new, better scooter, I've considered riding it down there instead of taking the bus or relying on someone else to drive me. I've started making my initial plans and figuring the route to take. The distance will be approximately 150 miles, and it will take me between four and six hours depending on how fast I can cruise at. Fortunately, I should be able to make it with only one fuel stop, even though I will have several stops planned in case I need extra. I've been going to a city park that has a ten mile loop of road that I can just ride laps around, and that is helping me figure fuel usage, and determine how long I can stand to be on the bike between rest stops. I'm tentatively planning to go in late Sept, early Oct. I want to be recovered from my hernia surgery, but I don't want to be back on PD yet, because I'm going to have to be able to go two days without dialysis. It's going to be a hell of a ride, but I think I'm going to enjoy it.

I'm going from Indy to Princeton and back. I'm taking pretty much a direct rout there over several different roads (I'd have to look at my maps 'cause I can't remember all the roads). Since I can't take the interstate, I have to stick to state highways. When we drive, we usually take the highway from Indianapolis to Terre Haute, then US 41 to Princeton. I'm really looking forward to this. Hmm......Sir Gravel the Great, eh?  :rofl;

Gravel....uh I mean Adam

I would probably take 67 down to Worthington and pick up 57 down to Oakland City and then 64 over to Princeton. These are all state highways without too much traffic. I've traveled these roads many times. Make sure to take a cell phone because there's not much between the small towns. I'm less than an hour from Princeton.

That sounds like a blast!  :yahoo; Will you arrange to dialize there so you don't have to worry about making the whole trip in two days?

I can hardly drive a car for more than 3 hours - a scooter could be a challenge. How do they handle in rain?

There are currently no dialysis centers in that area. Patients have to drive to Evansville (30-40 minutes)

If you have checked into all aspects of this trip, and it looks like everthing will go smoothly, I think you should absolutely go ahead with it.
You will have a lot of fun and adventure. We can't let this disease stop us from living the life we want to have. Just be reasonable in your
expectations of your own physical abilities and be safe and sane about it.
