Hello all,

I am looking to start a website for my family does anyone have experience with a service. I am not sure if I want to buy hosting and pay someone to build a site or if I want to pay a service monthly to maintain my files and provide a layout.

any suggestions?

I want to have :
a family tree
photos/video
forum
interactive content
flash

Thanks ! :flower;

You should PM RossMAN he's the tech guy, and I think if you become a premium member you may be eligible for free hosting. You need to talk to RossMAN though.

We have a family forum.  It helps keep us up with everyone.  We share pictures, videos, etc.  There is a spot for family in each city.  We have a calendar for birthdays and important dates.  It really helps us all stay connected. My sons have an autocross forum, so they have experience setting one up.  They did the monthly service and it all has worked great.  Good luck with the project.  It will be fun for your family.

CW,

There are 3 components to every web site including IHD, Google, CNN, USAToday, etc.

1) Domain - purchase from http://www.namecheap.com which offers FREE WhoisGuard privacy protection.
2) Web hosting - FREE for IHD Premium Members http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1162.0
3) Content such as forums, picture hosting, HTML, web design, etc.

A few questions:
1) Do you already have a domain registered or know what domain you want?  If you do, please register it today at http://www.namecheap.com
2) Do you have a computer headset?
3) Since you're a Premium Member you're entitled to free web hosting which I will gladly setup for you.
However if you opted to pay for premium web hosting elsewhere, what's your budget for web hosting?
4) Installing most of the features you mentioned can be done easily with installation scripts such as Fantastico, which is free.

OK I am the proud owner of a shiny new domain. Sadly I do not have a headset for my PC Rossman. I am willing to get on the old fashion phone if you feel it would be convenient.

Thanks for the assistance it is greatly appreciated

Congratulations :)

That's ok, if you ever do get a PC headset let me know.  We can chat over Skype for free.

As a matter of fact that's how I first met Epoman.  We knew each other on another forum, he was having problems with IHD, he bought a headset and we chatted for FIVE hours on our first chat.  Damn I miss him and Goofy so much and think of them constantly.

Thanks for the assistance it is greatly appreciated

You're welcome but we still need to get the web hosting and content stuff sorted out.

I'll send you a PM :)

CW,

It was a pleasure chatting with you on the phone.  I always enjoy chatting with new people and hearing their stories about IHD, Epoman and Goofynina.

It looks like your family website is up and running.  Thank you for being a Premium Member and enjoy your FREE web hosting :)

Sadly I do not have a headset for my PC Rossman.

I got a headset for Skype at Walmart, it was pretty inexpensive and works fine.
