Hi Everyone.   I am just healing from laparascopic surgery last Thursday to get my catheter to work again.  Apparently there was tissue growth around it that had to be cut out and it was repositioned.  When they tried a flush afterward, it was very slow.  Yesterday the flow was better but still a lot of blood showing.  Has anyone had this done?  Was it successful?  We were hoping to go traveling next week and I am so afraid it won't work.  I get my machine back on Friday and will test it then.  Right now I am on Temp Hemo with a neck line Tues, Thurs, Sat.  Hopefully, Saturday will be my last treatment and I can finally get back to normal after 4 months of waiting for surgery.  Keep your fingers crossed for a successfull restart.

I'm crossing everything for you, including fingers, toes and eyes!  I feel so badly when I hear stories like this.  In the 5 years I've been on PD I haven't had any trouble (yet).  Keep us posted.

Thanks Peleroja!   Last night was my first night back on the cycler and it ran BEAUTIFULLY!  I am over the moon!  I have my freedom back and we are going camping in the motorhome for September!  Thanks to everyone for input on my tials these last months.  Hemo is now cancelled!  Now I just have to wait to have the neck catheter removed and I'm home free!!

Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

We can go camping?  I didn't know that.  How do you go camping and do your dialysis? I've been on PD for a little over a year now and I've yet to travel or anything.

The only thing you need is a campsite with reliable electricity.  We take the machine and all my supplies in the motorhome.  It does have a generator and inverter, just in case of a power failure, but we haven't had a problem so far.  I set the machine up on my night table beside the bed and do the same as you would at home.  Boating, canoing, fishing, short hikes(I can't walk far.)  and just lying out in a lounge being lazy.  It gives you a whole new perspective on things.  Try it.
