Revving Up for a Kidney Transplant

Everyday Cynthia Nerger wakes up knowing that she will face kidney disease and dialysis for the rest of her life unless nothing short of a miracle occurs. Two days ago Cynthia was added to the waiting list for a kidney transplant, and the average time on this list is three years, but luckily she may not have to go that route.

"I have quite a few living donors if they are a match. So if that's the case it can be a scheduled procedure," said Cynthia Nerger who is awaiting a kidney transplant.

But there is one problem. Cynthia has no health insurance.

"Cynthia Nerger was eleven years old when she was diagnosed with kidney disease. Now at twenty four her kidneys are functioning at nineteen percent, and because she was dropped from her insurance when she was eighteen because of her pre existing condition she is expected to pay over $250,000 in medical expenses out of her own pocket.

"If I lose three more percent I have to get started on dialysis treatments, and that's three days a week, four hours a day. And me being a stay at home mom it's not very practical. So I'm trying to bypass that and get the transplant before the dialysis," said Nerger.

If she can't raise money for the transplant she may be on dialysis for the rest of her life. That's where the Corvette Limited Club of Central Georgia comes in. They are raising money for Cynthia Nerger through fund raising events like this car show on Saturday in Warner Robins.

"Any donations would be greatly appreciated. This lady needs a better life that what she has. I feel really compelled to help this woman out. So I'm pleading to the people in Central Georgia and the corporations to try to help this young lady out," said Clifford Dube who is the Vice President of Corvettes Limited of Central GA.
