Im so so sorry Twirl.

The good news about pets unlike humans is we have the option to put them down very gently and with dignity.  It doesnt lessen our pain for them.  But we also dont have to sit and watch them wither and be in pain.  :cuddle;.  Go back and read rainbow bridge.  Your Zuko is playing and doing well.  And one day you will be back with all your loving pets again.

Karen had a cat.  Morris.  Yup just like on the commercials.  She had him for 22 years.  And when she FOUND him he couldnt walk and was under her car.  He was a full grown cat at this point.  She took him in and gave him a Great home.  I was lucky and got to know him for his last 11 years.
Like you we took him to the vet.  Vets can tell age by looking at there eyes who knew??  and he was surprised how old morris was. (his quess was 25) Just like you the needle went in and we both held him for his last breath.  I walked back into the waiting room in tears.  I know its hard.
Two weeks later a baby cat showed up in our yard.  Looked just like Morris only much smaller.  he know lives with us.  His name is MiniMoe.  He is not a replacement.  Just a new addition to the family.

Lovely post Paul and lucky Mimimoe.

Twirl, I'm so so sorry about Zuko but I'm beyond happy that he didn't die in that stupid garage.  He knew you loved him and wanted no more pain for him.   :grouphug; :cuddle; :cuddle; :grouphug;

Zuko knew you loved him and cared for him for a good part of his life.  Go pet Sad Sack and your other cats while you mourn for your cat.  They will miss him also.  Ming ran around our house for a month looking for our cat Nanny after I had to put her down due to old age and crisis. I hope you are feeling better.

Dear Twirl... I have a tear in my eye for your pain and your loss.. but remember Zuko was there with you right to the end (or you were with him) and he knew how much concern and love you had for him to do the right thing by him and put him to rest where therw will be no more pain. I'm so glad you got him back from that _*@#*@*_@ neighbour in time.

(incidently did you know that a cat's purr as much as it comforts us and makes us feel they are happy and content... I read somewhere that a cat's purr has some kind of sonic vibrations that actually assists a cat's bones in healing, so if they've fallen and broken something you might hear them purring loudly because it actually assists in their healing).

I sat Celeste over my kidney and commanded her to purr her little heart out... I lef her there till I could handle the weight no more.... My GFR went from 5 to 6!!! :D

*hugs* for Twirl in the memory of Zuko... a loved and cherished family member... :grouphug;

from tonight that Zuko had a peaceful night at his home
and then tomorrow will be a week he has been gone
I still expect to see him on the brick ledge in the D mornings
he was always there to greet me for a tummy rub

Sorry to hear about Zuko Twirl, I was catching up on post.
I read your post and it reminded me of the day our cat Bandit died, a very rough day. I have no words that can fit to comfort you, but I wish you well and Zuko is no longer in pain.
